Same problem here and could not find any answer on internet...Yes,it is due to Router because when I switch back to Modem everything works fine.

Its short term disconnects, like getting disconnected on 2-5 seconds then connection comes back...Would appreciate answer.

What gaming do you do, PC or game console?
Are you wired or wireless when gaming?

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Cat6 is recommended.

B2
Latest firmware Can check what year its from but its old.
Current Firmware Version :   2.03
Current Firmware Date :   Fri 30 Apr 2010

This is where it gets hard to answer ur question.
It should be cable. I dont have a modem, we dont have it here.
its just a jack in the wall and we plug in the cable there.

Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field?

What region are you located?

Do you have a Internet Connection IP address in that same section?  Status/Device Info

I would check the logs to see if there is any disconnections and or obtaining of a new DHCP address during these time frames.
I would ask your ISP if they see any disconnections on there side.

There is newer FW however not sure if it will fix this. If you decide to update, please follow the FW update sticky in this forum at the top.

Just find the timeframes on when you notice that disconnect then find the log entries for those times. See if you notice anything there. You don't have to post them all.

Also could be an issue if you game alot and you have others online gaming as well. This router is pretty good however if you are a dedicated or harecore gaming, I would recommend getting into a different model router. Something like a DIR-825 or DIR-655. Something that has customizable QoS rules and you can help manage gaming traffic. These lower model 6 series routers sometimes don't have additional QoS to set up and effectively use like other routers.

Did you unpack the .bin file from the .zip file.

Please review the FW update sticky first.
