Wireless problems after updating Firmware to 1.35NA
« on: May 03, 2011, 11:48:08 AM »

So I have done a lot of searching online for a fix for my WiFi troubles but have had no luck. I few days ago, I updated the firmware of my router to 1.35NA and everything seemed to be working fine at first. After a while though, I noticed my Nexus One phone wasn't getting internet through WiFi anymore. It is connected to WiFi still, and it can ping the other devices on the network but it won't connect to the web. I have a Xoom tablet connected to WiFi as well and it is getting access to the web, though it seems to drop web access from time to time too, even before the firmware update. My phone always had a connection to the web through WiFi before the update though so I have no idea why it doesn't now. The two PCs that have a wired connection work fine.

In the router logs, I also noticed that "UPnP renew entry 255.255.255.255 <-> ... UDP timeout:0 'Teredo'" being spammed over and over since the update, which I read has something to do with IPv6?  I'm at a loss for what to do to fix these things so any help is appreciated. If more information is needed, I'll be happy to post it up.

Try turning off uPnP.
Try setting WiFi mode from Mixed to Single mode G or N if you have any N supported devices.
Try Mixed G and N.

Any of your PCs online when this happens? Vista and 7 come with IPv6 enabled and could be shut off if your not using it or the ISP isn't supporting it at this time.
What ISP service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand alone or built in router?
Any other WiFi routers in the area?
Any house cordless phones?

Turning off UPnP has stopped the UPnP renewal spamming in my logs. However, even after trying the other changes, my phone still won't connect to the internet.

Both wired PCs are online during the day and offline at night but the phone still won't connect to the web in either situation.
I use Comcast Cable internet.
The modem is a stand alone Motorola.
I live in an apartment building so, unfortunately, there are quite a few WiFi routers within range of me.
No cordless phones in my apartment but it's possible a neighbor has one.

It's just odd to me that this started happening after the Firmware update.

I wonder if what you are seeing is related to my problems with larger wireless downloads dropping more often than not....sometimes they complete, but very often they get like 40% done and just drop....

What was the previous FW that was loaded?
What phone are you trying to connect? Droid or iPhone?
What is the supported WiFi modes the phone can use?
What security modes are you using?

Possible that you might try going back to the previous to see. Not sure if this can be done.

Strangely, for the last few days, my phone (the "Nexus One" Android phone from Google/HTC) has been connected to both the WiFi and the web without a problem. I never made any big changes to the router setup since my first post either. Before being on firmware 1.35NA, I was on 1.34NA. I still have no idea why I was able to connect to the router but not the web but maybe it had to do with DNS numbers not matching up since the firmware update or some other thing like that? Hopefully it just keeps working lol.

Now my only problem is the one I have had since I got this router. For some reason my Samsung BD-C5500 causes the router to randomly reboot when I connect it through WiFi...

Is the Samsung set up for DHCP Reservation on the router?

I don't think so but I'm not sure how to check that or set it up for the Samsung.

I left the house with my phone for a while today, and ever since I got back, it won't let me get web access again. It's connected to the router just fine with wpa/wpa2 and the Android phone supports 11b/g/n. When I look at the DNS numbers and the Gatway numbers on the router, they don't match what my app says the phone is using. Would that be causing a net problem?

Yep, if the phone is trying to use a different gateway number it won't be hitting your router.  Sounds like it hooked to a neighbors' or a hot spot that you may have been near earlier.

I would set up reservation addresses for all of your devices on the router under Setup/Networking.

Okay, I'll give that a try because this is just getting stupid and annoying lol. I have been trying everything I can with no luck and then, while I'm just sitting here, the phone suddenly gets internet access through the WiFi. Then I check the Xoom tablet and it can't get access to the web. The settings for both devices are the same too. It's crazy.

Thanks for the advice! Adding my Android devices to the reservation list has fixed my initial problem. It didn't fix the problem with my blu-ray player though. As soon as I started the Netflix app, it caused the router to reboot.

When I saw the player in the list of devices, it didn't have a name attached to it, just an IP address. Would that cause any problems with the router?

No, the router doesn't really care if there is a name or not.  All the router cares about is the MAC address.

I would add a name so you know that it is.
How is the BD player connecting? wired or wireless?

It's a wireless connection with the BD player. I may just have to get a really long Ethernet cable or a new router to use the BD player.
