Hi,

I need your help.

This morning I had no internet connection due to failure in the router. I have tested internet signal directly from Modem and is perfect, so the problem was in the router. It hasn’t failed for years, just all of sudden.

I accessed the router via IP 192.168.0.1 and checked configuration, everything was fine but in Status it said:

Cable Status: Connected
Network Status:  Disconnected

It was trying to connect but it couldn't. I tried different cables... nothing

I connected the modem to a regular switch port and also the PC and I can access the Modem and browse Internet with no problem.

I decided to upgrade the firmware to the latest version  135NA and accessed, via cables and upload the FW. It rebooted apparently normal before those 80 or  90 secs but it never came back alive. I tried to access it via IP 192.168.0.1  and there is no response. I tried several time and combinations including powering off the router… nothing. One thing, I didn’t saved the configuration thinking I can type in all the information needed.
I wanted to reset to original using the reset button in the back, nothing. It resets but I can’t access the router using IP 192.168.0.1 any more.  Turn-off and on, reset it again … nothing it is not there…  it seems that either is dead or I am using a different IP address …

I wonder if the new FW version sets a different IP address but  if I reset it… shouldn’t come back to manufacturing settings, including IP 192.168.0.1 ??

Are these the only ways to reset the unit? Maybe some kind of timing or double clicking ??

Any idea how could I access back to the unit??

Is there any software that can run a test over the unit and know if this is actually a physical failure?

Please, any idea or steps are welcomed and needed badly !!   :-[

Ensure your PC NIC is set up for auto Obtain IP addressing.
192.168.0.1 is the default factory IP address for FW updates and factory resets.
Try different LAN port. Don't connect to WAN port.
Hold the back button for 30 seconds.
Try different browser like Opera or FF to be sure.
Connect to router when it's not connected to the ISP modem.
What ISP service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP modem do you have? Stand alone or built in router?
If built in router, possible that ISP modem has same IP address.

Hi Peter,

After you initially had problems, you said that you tested the Modem and Browsed the Internet with no problems.

Did you remember to remove the Power from the Modem after hooking the Modem back to the Router? Quite possible, that you forgot this!

Did you remember to do a Factory Reset after upgrading to the latest Firmware?

I had the EXACT same thing happent to me today.  For the 3rd day in a row I was having difficulty connecting to the internet.  I started looking around in the menus and found that my date was set to some time in 2010.  So I tried to update the date but I couldn't save anything ( on 1.33NA ).  I kept getting a pop up saying cannot use MAC address for WDS.  So I figured it was time to update the firmware.  I updated the firmware and it just hung for like 30 min.  I tried to reboot and its DOA.  I've tried the reset button etc and I can't even get back to the 192.168.0.1 menu.  I have a power light and an ethernet light lit and that is it.

My issue right now is not connnecting to the internet.  My issue right now is trying to connect to the router.

Hi 94wolfpack,

I would say that you crashed the Router. You never upgrade / update the Router when the Date on the Router is not accurate. That tells me that the Date Servers are down, or something is wrong with the Router, itself.

When you tried the Reset Button, did all the lights on the Router go out, when you released the Reset Button?

How long did you hold the Factory Reset Button in for?

When you attempted to upgrade the Firmware, was it over a Wired Connection?

Hi,

I tried to update the date but the router wouldn't let me save anything because it said something about a MAC address in WDS.  So I figured there was a bug and needed to update.

I never could use the auto date config.  It just never seemed to update the date ever... So I would always copy my computers time/date stamp.

I did the upgrade over a wired connection.

I held the reset button for several seconds and when I let go no lights toggle.

Sounds like it is fried... I seemed to have lots of problems with this particular router over the years .....
:(

Anyone have suggestions for a replacement?

Hi 94wolfpack,

You need to hold the Reset Button in for about 30 to 40 seconds and then release the button. You should hear a click, when you press the button. The lights stay on, until the Button is released.

The lights never go out, while the Factory Reset Button is held in.

The Factory Reset must be done, in place, with the power on.

Yep... held the reset for over a minute with the power on and I get no IP address assignment.  The only lights that stay on are the ethernet link to my pc and the power light.  The rest of the lights flicker but then go off....

Anything that can be done HW wise?

Hi 94wolfpack,

If the Router, is still under Warranty, RMA the Router.

Try swapping Lan cables and try a different PC and or browser, Opera or FF to make sure you can or can not get a connection to the routers web page. If other device can't connect then something is wrong with the router unit.

Its an electrical device, they die after a while.  If the resets didn't work it may be time for a new one.
