The following DNS-320 Firmware Wishlist contains the collective contribution of the DNS-320 D-Link forum community. If you would like to contribute to this list, please post your suggestions as a reply to this thread.

Below is a summary of everyone's input thus far. Please let me know if I over-generalized, misrepresented, or missed anyone's concerns and I'll refresh the list with updates. Recent items are highlighted in blue. Items fixed in the latest firmware update are striked out.

Due to the growing size of this list, all contributions added to this thread will be included on our master list located here: DNS-320 Master Firmware Wishlist

If any items in the wishlist were fixed by the latest firmware, please post and I'll update!

DNS-320 Wishlist

  • General - Include ability to revert to older firmware after upgrading to v2.02b01
  • General - Ability to create Ajaxplorer repositories
  • General - Ability to change the name of the root volumes (e.g. change "Volume_1" to "xyz")

Please fix the bug whereby the UPNP server is not auto-refreshing when new files are copied to existing folders and subfolders:

as posted in some other threads:

When files (250mb or so) get copied over to an EXISTING folder on my DNS-320 the UPNP server is not identifying to my WD Lives (or other devices like SKIFTA) that the folder has new media in it.

Yet, if i browse the folder VIA Samba, I can clearly access the media.

If i do a manual refresh, all is well, but I shouldn't have to manually refresh.

This seemed to start happening once my UPNP folders began containing a large # of files when i moved over my MP3 files

I am fairly new to DNS 320 (1TB Hitachi), but I would like to request a way of controlling if the index of the UPnP has been refreshed/updated possible means to edit the index file and add the file to the index list. And then run a test on the index file if there are any errors.

Basically because all the movie files are copied to the DNS 320 (320 gb worth movies, photo etc.), and all these movies etc. are visible in the "All_Videos" folder, but are not indexed/visible in the "Folders\HD_a2\Movies" where the message "No videos found".

Autorefresh and manual refresh yields no result.

I am using firmware 2.02 (downloaded from d-links homepage).

not sure what you're saying.  Are you having the same issue as the rest of us or are you asking for something different?

From what I've read in the thread regarding UPnP, I think some people are experiencing the same thing as me, however I didn't see on the wishlist a means to verify the index files integrity. e.g. when xbox is asking for the index file in order to display the videos or photo's available for viewing.

I could be wrong and that it has nothing to do with indexing, but it's strange that the xbox goes from showing me the content of a folder to, some 40 movie to "No videos found" when I upload 1 single movie that seems to tip the balance in the same folder.

I hope that you understand what I'm trying to say.

I think I understand what you are saying, but I don't think anyone else was experiencing that issue.

You're saying you have 40 videos, everything is fine.  You add a 41st video and now suddenly you can't see anything.  Correct?

Whereas, we have 40 videos, everything is fine, we add a 41st" video and only THAT video won't show, the other ones continue to show and unless we do a MANUAL refresh, the index is not updated.  While not fully proven, a lot of us seem to have this happen after we add a large # of files to our folder structure (ie: copying over a lot of movies or usually more so when copying our music collection which tends to be a lot more files.)

I'm not 100% sure what the issue is here. Do "ionizer's comments in the prior post accurately capture what you are requesting? If so, I'll need validation from other users that this is a systemic problem, and not an isolated incident before adding your item to the wishlist.   ???
