now also keep in mind that a wired connection for the ps3 is best as the wireless card in it is only a G not N so your speeds wont be as good as if you wire it

Even the best wireles connection in the world, is about as good as a wired connection a decade ago. If at all possible, use wired.

Yea well I have it wired directly to my router and I followed the instructions and it seems WORSE than before. Sometimes I just randomly get booted off the playstation network, it's crazy!!!!

I would have someone get with you on teamviewer.com and go over the router settings.

The chain is only as strong as the weakest link. When you lose the PS3 connection, do other computers in your network drop out? Do a continual ping out (Ping -t google.com from CMD) and then go play. As soon as you lose the connection go back to the computer and see if there was packet loss. If so, I would start by looking at your connection from your ISP and make sure that is solid.

Yea well I've called  my ISP and we ran a bunch of test including hooking my PS3 directly to my modem without the router and it works like a charm. They told me to call D- link which I did yesterday and the customer service rep had me change a couple of settings and told me to observe the connection for 24 hrs. If those changes didn't help then they would send me a link to update my router to version 2.3 which I have not seen the link as of yet. So I think it's definetly in the router just finding the optimal settings for my gaming is my biggest challenge.

How many game consoles do you have?
I think also setting up some QoS rules for the game console will be the next step.

Hmm, well, we could at least have a look at the router settings with you and see how they are doing. The PS would need to be available for setting up QoS more or less. Suppose we don't need it to fully set up the QoS rules. Someone could use a place holder IP address.
