problems with dlna support within firmware.
« on: November 08, 2011, 08:22:40 AM »

I got this router to use as a dlna movie server but there is a few problems that need work.

When you select the root option it will not display any of the content on to the tv.

If I uncheck the root option and pick a folder it works shows on the tv.

The problem with this is you can only select one folder not many.

Different formats is another problem selecting an avi crashes the router.
Mpeg format plays fine but glitches a little but when you try to fast foward the movie the router will crash.

Last problem windows media center sees the router fine but cant see see of play anything.

Right now i had to map the drive and use playon to share  my media Till maybe the firmware get iron out DLNA side.

Can you also add Magicjack support to the shareport plus so i can make it networked.

So far good router print share works great works with a 7 port hub to add hard drives (using 3 + a printer)

The set up cd was confusing didnt work manual setup was harder because the 192.168.0.1 would not log me in give me the 404 error. I ended up using   dlinkrouter with out the http:// in firefox to finally log in to manual setup.
I use att dsl the only way to get it to work with the dsl was to bridge the modem so the router would see the ppoe connection. A pain.

What OS are you using on your connected PCs?
Does any other browser experience some of these issues while configuring the 645? Try Opera or IE?
IE 8 and 9, use compatibility modem.

How about Opera or FF for log in? Are you using the routers web page to log in and configure the router?

Understand about keeping DSL info on ISP modem however it is preferred to bridge the modem and let the 645 handle the ISP DSL traffic management. However that not the issue here.

I will refer this issue to DLink and see if they have any recommendations. This is a new product and I don't have any experience with it at the moment.

Dont use opera but with firefox I went in to the address bar typed http://192.168.0.1 with error.
tried 192.168.0.1 timed out.
I then tried http://dinklinkrouter but it tried to take me to dlink.com home page.

Last ditch effort typed dinkrouter in the address bar got to the dlink splash screen where i could manual setup the router.

Thing about bridging the modem is how many ppl out there knows about doing that. most ppl are not  network geeks by nature.

But my main issue is with the dlna part of the routers firmware not login because i figured it out.

The extra info i gave is to help out others and to give dlink headup so the firmware can be corrected so they have a great router and not some half working vizio.

Are you using auto obtain IP addressing on the PC you are connecting with or reserved IP address?
What is the gateway IP address you seeing coming from the router? I should be 192.168.0.1.

Understand that people in general are not geeks like some however that doesn't mean that help isn't out there to for people to ask for. Bridging modems if fairly easy.
Maybe someone and use teamviewer and review your router settings with you.

I have forwarded this thread to Dlink.

Yep using auto ip addressing on the pc.

gateway ip coming from router is 192.168.0.1

overall the router is working well good UPNP support noticed Enable auto channel scan is a little glitchy but channel 6 transmission rate Best auto channel width 20/40 works well to stream media.(playon not with DLNA within router) I use a netgear WNCE2001 to make all my wire connection wireless using a dlink 5 port switch sometimes it gets the address macs confused but it do hold a good link rate 270MBPS/242MBPS running channel 6 20/40. but the auto channel drops the link rate to about 45 mbps.

I think with a little firmware tweaking it will be a great product.

Agreed and theres always the probability that some products from OEMs are not always up to what expectations are. I would email Dlink with your information and what you have experiences to let them know what your seeing and inform them of the problems.

You could try another 645 and see if that unit has the same issues or not. Or Try a different Dlink modem router too.
