Hi to all,
I have a dir 655 coupled with a 320b modem for adsl.
Now I must switch to VDSL. Can I use the router with a VDSL Modem ?
Which modem could be used ? I do not see dlink products ..

It's possible to use an external router with VDSL. What is the model of the VSDL modem? I presume it may already have a built in router? Any chance it can be bridged? If not, does it have a DMZ? Will need some more info on this Modem before we can offer up some better suggestions.

Your probably going to have to use the VDSL modem your ISP provides. And its almost certianly going to be a modem/router gateway. And if your on Qwest or Uverse, there isn't a way to totally bridge the two devices, only DMZplus it, which isn't the same thing. There is a very technical conversation over here. It may or may not relate to you, but it still a good read.

The only one I get is Fritzbox 7390 that has modem with router build in. I think it can be bridget if I use it only as modem . That means FB7390 as modem VDSL and dir 655 as router for my network . Is it possible ?

Yes if the ISP modem can be bridged, then ya, you should be able to use the 655 router as the main host router. You'll need to use the PPPoE or A for setting up the DSL account information under Setup/Internet/Manual.

My ISP provider says that is no necessary to set id and pw (PPPOE) and set to dhcp with VPI:8 and VCI: 35.
and the modem is "transparent". You mean that this is right so ?

If it's transparent and you can use DHCP on the router then you should be good to go.
One way of checking this is to look at the Status page of the router, under the WAN section, it should have a ##.##.###.### IP address for the WAN connection. It should not be 192.168.0.#.

I mounted all and is good working, with vdsl2 bridge modem and then the dir 655.
I have only a problem: the router after a connection of more than 1 day and 11 hours cuts off the connection,
but in the status seems to be allright ( IP adress from provider a so on.. ).
I must manually release hte connection an then renew. After this it works again ( the IP adress is the same as before ). Now the question is : what can I do to leave this operation automatically ? I do not want to be obliged to set every day manually the connection... If I am out for a few days I do not have remote access anymore..
Could be a bug in the fw ? I have rev A3 hardware and 1.35eu fw.

Make sure that Always ON is checked under the PPPoE settings on the router?

I have checked it, it was on demand. But I have DHCP connection and on the list of my ISP DIR655 seems to be not compatible.Perhaps Dlink has to upgrade the FW to this new Standards and ISP Provider.

ISPs control what is compatible and what isn't on there systems. It's up to them to get with D-Link and make sure devices work on there systems. D-Link and other Mfrs carry and try to maintain network standards as most ISPs do as well since networking in itself is just a standard way of communicating. If ISP deviate from this and don't comply or refuse to comply with standards or work with other networking Mfrs then thats there business. You'll find that most ISPs are fairly open and work well with networking Mfrs. Also most ISP are open to buying your own ISP modem hardware as well. We have seen some ISPs that don't like this however. Not sure why. All about the control and money I guess. If DLink isn't something that is supported by your ISP, I would recommend you find a different ISP and supports DLink if your a valued DLink customer. If your ISP is the only option then you'll need to find a compatible router that works with your ISP service.

I see your in a EU region. Possible that ISP services differ from NA region as well.

I think that you are totally right. I received from my ISP a list with all compatible devices, with adsl there are more Dlink products, modems,routers and combi.For VDSL ( the use V2 last version ) Dilink is not included.
Maybe they are testing Dlink devices I do not know. I think that there is also a problem that Dlink has no modems or bridges for VDSL  as other Manufactors and if we are obliged to connect a router to a 3part modem or bridge, some problems of compatibility may be emerge.I hope that the situation will go on normalization and the ISP will open to more devices. It is only to think that the compatible devices are not in the common stores, and that reports as a commercial action....

One other thing you might try, if the VDSL modem has a DMZ, might put the 655 router in to the Modems DMZ.

After more tests with VDSL modem provided from ISP , the block remains.
The router after sometime ( from 10h to 36h ) lost the internet connection. The strange is that if I go on the router menu I see no problems! I have to do a reset and it works again. I think that this kind of router is not compatible with my ISP. Now I will try another the DIR 855. If this one has the same problems, then I will move to another brand.

You can change the DHCP lease time more than 1440 minutes.
