So I've got a DGL-4500 that worked perfectly the last time I had it out, about 6 months ago. Now that I have a use for it, I'm attempting to set it up, but I've run into some issues.

1.)  It does not appear to be recognizing ethernet cables. I've tried four separate cables and two network adapters, with no luck.

2.) I can connect to it over a wireless connection, but when I enter 192.168.0.1, I just get a "could not connect to server" message. No way to test internet yet, so I don't know if that works.

I've already reset the thing, with no change. Even tried putting the included CD in, but on the step where you plug the cable in and turn the router on, it eventually times out or something and tells me that the cable isn't connected.

So...is it borked?

Are you getting a IP address and Gateway from ipconfig /ALL in a command box? Or check the Status option in windows Status and Networking and select properties on the network adapter then Status.

Be sure to net your network card to auto obtain for IP addressing.

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.

Hmm...tried to reply yesterday but apparently it didn't post. : /

I have internet service to my apartment now, and can confirm that it works perfectly when going straight from the modem to my computer.

I also ran windows's "diagnose and repair" thing just to see what it'd do, and for the first time ever it actually fixed something for me...sort of. I can log in to the router and configure it, but I have no internet access.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

My ISP is Suddenlink Communications, cable. Modem is a Motorola SURFboard 6120.

The modem should connect right up with the 4500. Mine did.
You did power off the modem and router. Power ON the modem and let it sync, then power ON the 4500.
I would swap cables between the MODEM and 4500 to test. It should connect well.
You can even set the WAN port speed to 1000 since the MODEM supports that speed as well. IT should connect over AUTO.

Make sure the Basic/Internet/Manual/Connection for the internet is DHCP under the drop down menu. It should already be there by default.

I used that exact method to start up the router and modem, with the same result. Windows troubleshooting is back to its old self, and can't identify the problem, haha.

And yes, it's set to DHCP. I hit the reset button in my initial attempts to log into it, so apart from setting up wifi security, all settings are default.

Seems kinda crazy. Try a different PC if you have one?

I guess you could try to update FW.

Yeah, that firmware page is obsolete.  Here is the latest download:

Click on Firmware link of course and download 1.23NA, remember to update while wired, not wirelessly.

I would also suggest after you update the firmware and get access to the D-Link, perform a factory reset. Sometimes it's best to start from scratch..
