« on: January 30, 2012, 11:32:25 AM »

Right i have a Samsung TV that plays files on the DNLA plays fine of any PC
and played fine of my old Nas drive a seagate
Now i got this as it states DNLA certificated now i have got Moves and pictures to work in a fashion
But Music will not play
why is the DNLA a mess on this device Oh and my Tv is a Smart TV Views two ways By folder or there allshare app the Movies and pictures through the folder view
i have also tried a buffalo unit a cheap unit and gess what
that all works and that is not DNLA certificated
On the front of the Box it has this
I have checked this on a LG tv and thats the same
Is this a DNLA Unit or Not

Even if it is, this won't help you much, because as I understand it, DLNA standard does not define what exact media formats a device needs to render. The only way to solve this problem is a real-time-transcoding DLNA media server (like eg freeware PS3 Media Server). Such transcoding on the fly is probably too much for the small CPU of this NAS.
You can have a look at Paragraph 7. here: http://www.twonky.com/upfiles/DLNA+Best+Practices.pdf
This article is somewhat outdated, but nonetheless highlights the problems with DLNA certification:

I no about the pitfalls with Dnla But as the seagate Home a vastly inferia Nas drive worked fine on the TV i asked my mate who has a DNS-320 which worked on my TV which to get he said this was the latest
we have tried both devices and the DNS-320 works set up the same way and swoping drives over
so clearly there is something different with the boxes
As for spec they walk all over the seagate
as HDTVs are set up to receive info and streams from PC's i would of thought this box would do the same i hope something can be done with the firmware to sort this out
i found this
http://certification.dlna.org/certs/REG28321285.pdf
it only shows Video and no MP3
wish i had seen this sooner

Hi Northerndj,
I understand that you are trying to stream your video files from your 320 directly to your TV, but I am unclear exactly how you are doing that.  Are you using the 320's UPNP / Media Server or trying to stream as a network share?  Does anything show up on your TV to try and access or does the 320 just not appear to select anything?  Or does the 320 show up but when you try and access something you get nothing or some error message?  Are you using firmware 2.02 or something earlier?
Sorry for all the questions, but the details might help in sorting it out. please and thanks.

On my Sony BRAVIA it's the other way round: I can listen to the MP3 music and see the JPG pictures but won't see the MP4 movies. The only clip I am able to see is a MPEG-1 video in MPEG-PS container (.mpeg file).

Just to sort the confusion out here I have a DNS-325 and my mate has a DNS-320
The DNS320 worked first time just pluging it in, as he uses his for Video and Music
Mine shows Video and Pictures but Not MP3 Files until i had a mess around
Now i found that the device is not certificated for Music by DNLA
The DNLA works using the UPNP server
This is the latest i have found due to the lack of instructions available
When you make UPNP enabled and ponted it to the drive/folder you need to do a Refresh this can take a bit to do Now this needs to be done every time you add a folder but not a file.
Now i no the TV plays and see's Files on a windows PC and on my old Seagate Home Nas
Now I have managed to get the TV to see the MP3 But i have them in Folders eg of the artist the TV only sees all the Tracks
On the previous nas it saw the folders
Now on a PS3 that sees things fine
One other thing is UPNP only see's One drive only and not two
Were as on The 320 it sees two drives, I whish i got the 320 But D-Link said this was the updated version more like the other way round
I have changed the drives over and mine work fine in the 320
so clearly there is a Firmware problem
I should of looked at the DNLA website before buying this, and i would of got a Buffalo or zxel one that are cheaper units but do what they say they do
Oh and my TV Is Full DNLA unlike this box

Northerndj,
Thanks for trying to clarify your situation but I am still not sure I grasp your exact situation.  Regarding the 325 that you are having some difficulty with, I am assuming you have the latest 1.02 firmware.  Double check your UPNP settings to see that both of your volumes have actually been added to the UPNP server.  If one volume has has not already been added, then simply add it.  If the problem volume is there try highlighting just that drive before hitting the refresh all and when completed shut down the NAS and re-start.
Good luck

all volumes added and i found out that, and must state it does not say any were doing a full refresh (Took Ages to do and had to be done via Google chrome)
all drives are there
It could do with making clear after setting up a UPNP that you need to do a full refresh

Now this has not fixed things but the files are visible via the TV's Folder View
The Pictures and Videos are in there respective folders
But the MP3 are only in alphabetical order, Thankfully this seems to of been addressed in the wish list
This seems to be only effecting TV's LG Sony and Samsung
Xbox and PS3 are fine
I no there are not many on here use the DNLA (UPNP) But if D-Link get this sorted they will be onto a winner as the cheap ones seem to handle this better then the More reliable units
With More Smart TV's being sold now this could be a good selling point
My favourite is playing Picture in a slide show but i can now use my TV and amp to play my music hopefully they can tweak to firmware out to fix the problems
sorry for any confusion
It does seem that different TV's have different problems
LG only shows Movies No Pictures or Music
Sony well Music and pics No Movies
Samsung Does show all three but the Music is limited
Now some would say its the TV's fault
Nope i have tested all three on my old Seagate with a repaired drive and all play every thing
Now the Older Dns 320 does also play everything on all sets that i have tried
so i no they no how to sort this out
as the DNS-320 are in most places discontinued and this is now the currant unit
