iPhone 4s and dir-600
« on: March 26, 2012, 06:18:19 AM »

I owned a dir-600 for 3 months now. for the first 2 months the router has been working perfectly fine. Meaning: my iphone and other devices can connect to wifi with no problem. Just under a month ago, the dir-600 started acting up. I done everything, from resetting router to even calling my dsl provider to check if the problem was with my provider. I also tried connecting my iphone to other wifi and it was able to connect without hassles.

I am not computer-savvy and I've googled everything but nothing seemed to fix the problem. I have attached the traffic statistics of the router. Obviously there is something wrong. Help please?

Welcome!
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.

Some things to try:
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI, WLAN Partition and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

contact your ISP and have them help you bridge the modem.

Does the iphone get thru if you turn off security as a test?
do any other devices get connected via wifi?

I've found out that the current setting for my modem is 'bridged'.

Even without security, my phone won't connect. I can see the router being listed on my phone tho. I am yet to try other devices if they can connect. Le sigh.

I forgot to add that there are times of the day where my phone gets auto-connected to the router. It is sporadic tho. Sometimes it last for 15 minutes, sometimes up to 3hours before it gets cut off again.

Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
How Many?

Does this PC have a WiFi card installed?

I'd contact the Mfr of InSSIDer about this error.

Were hoping to find out how many other Wifi routers are near by. Possible that your getting interference from many other wifi routers.

My PC doesn't have a wifi card.

And as for other wifi routers in the area? I don't think so, when my iphone scans it can only see my house wifi.

Ok, possible that this router is faulty. I presume that your iphone works on other wifi networks? I might go to the store and pick up a different model router, say a 655 or 657, or something along those lines. My 4s works on every router i've tested so far.
