This is nonsense, ın another post people already mentioned the removal of static routing.
There you replied in more or less the same way and pointed out to facts that presumably mentioned this removal. These facts mentioned a lot but not the removal of static routing.
You did get a reply, that was not correct, and never reacted on that.

Thing about that is, there are release notes available for the code that you can read through. If you don't like what it's going to do, don't install it.
Just sayin.

I'll doublecheck the changelog, if for whatever reason it's not in the current running log I'll make sure thats corrected, but to my knowledge it's in there, or at least was at one time and should be still as it's a running log.

D-Link has disabled some basic functionality through firmware (up)grade
releasing new firmware that disable downgrade is in MY OPINION
MORONIC and SIMPLY CRIMINAL This can be a good basis for a class action suite against D-Link
I don`t like ranting but I finally think it`s necessary to give a clear signal to the people responsible for these kind of crazy acts.
I used D-Link products for a number of years and frankly I can`t recommend this brand anymore.
Look what happened to CREATIVE and learn a lesson!

By the way this is not aimed at LYCAN ( who I truly rerspect ), but this is aimed at D-Link sales and marketing department.

If someone is being a moron it's probably you.
You really need to buy more Linksys or whatever brand gear. That would implicate that you would visit their forums more and not this one.
Anyway...

What are you trying to prove here? I really can't make any sense from your rants. Is this actually helping the OP? So unless you have some added value to offer for the OP I would request you to open another thread in which you can assemble the Dlink bashers with too much time on their hands  8)

I wouldn't say don't buy the 655, but I have been pretty disappointed with every firmware since 1.11.  As a sustaining engineer for a software company, its always interesting to see how other companies handle patches.  Clearly dlink has a lot of work to do, because the firmware shouldn't be getting worse.  Not to mention how sloppy the releases have been.  Why is dlink so secretive with what it fixes?  We publish every bug we fix, and even some we haven't fixed so atleast customers knew we know about them.

Overall the 655 is an ok router, and if I was in the market for another router, I am not sure I would buy another dlink.  I am hoping 1.3 changes my mind.

Comming from someone who`s qualified as an insane member, I regards this as an overwhelming compliment. THANKS A LOT  :D

And the Karma meter registers the number of 'Thank you'-s / 'Up yours'.

Good for you to take it as a compliment. This indicated that you've learned from the experience;  ;D

I rechecked the changelogs and cannot find a warning that static routing is disabled.
Static routing is a basic functionality and was enabled in past firmware versions.
If you run into problems often techies advise to install the latest firmware first.
If the latest firmware is irreversabble and disables static routing, and this renders the dir655 less or not usuable for you, D-Link is legally liable if they don't make a very clear warning.
So calling such an irreversable firmware upgrade moronic may be harsh but saying please didn't help in the past and will most likely not help in the future.
If D-Link is aware of this issue and stil brings out such firmware without any clear warning, they are knowingly stealing functionality from their customers property and that is criminal.

So I still stand behind my warning/appeal to D-Link's sales and marketing department.

You really keep amazing me with your point of views...
There has not yet been an irreversible firmware upgrade. If 1.30 is irreversible, you already know which functionality is there and which isn't.

Secondly, if you claim that Dlink is "liable" and "stealing customers property" you're really in the wrong universe.
- The firmware is not property of the client. It's Dlinks/Ubicom's
- A changelog has no legal status whatsoever. It's courtesy of the manufacturer to publish it.
- If your 'assumptions' are correct, Dlink could legitimately ask for an extra fee for extra functionality (like Shareport, Guest zone). This is correct since the firmware is legally still Dlink's/Ubicom's.
I don't know where you got your legal degree, but it must have been 'on sale'. Simply because your allegations are not true.

You've made your 'point' on the board. IMHO your perception of facts is really one big fantasy, but if believe in your fabrications : be happy.
Since there is no added value to continuation of this factual incorrect ranting I will ask the moderators to close down the thread.

And please refrain from ranting on the board. There is nothing to gain with these eruptions of uncontrolled anger. You might even be expelled....

Your inability to read between the lines keeps amazing me.
IF, and I say and said IF a firm issues firmware that renders a device more or less(read for some maybe not but for some yes) to a brick without any warning , THEY ARE LIABLE
It was a D-Link person who stated that the new firmware would be a no fallback version and the same persom doubted if staic routing would be back in that firmware, I didn't start any rumour, I simply interpreted what was presented( by people that should know) in this forum.
The fact that you catagorically choose to ignore that clearly puts you into the FANBOY category.
I sincerely hope that your last post does will not be taken seriously because D-Link closing down this thread will only prove my point.

Just a worried customer!

I wrote an entire page of diatribe to post to this thread last night that was lost due to issues to stupid to go into (I know to save my work I do)

It boiled down to this.

PeterJvM, If you have a legal mater to pursue with D-Link I would do it through an official communication channel.  This is a board where individuals (some of whom are on D-Link's payroll) state their own opinions.  It was never designed to be a place to communicate with D-Link.  The number to communicate with D-Link (Customer Service) is 1 800 326 1688 ext. 6314.

EddieZ, Stop trollbaiting, just walk away.

Lycan, This thread quit being useful a while ago, please for the love of D-Link lock it.
