Model: DIR-655
HW Version: A3
Firmware: 1.35EA

One problem with DIR-655.

Drops wireless connection very often. On the taskbar in wireless network center (next to speaker and time) I can find info: Limited Access. Router doesnt drop internet connection but only wireless connection. Sometimes 3-4 times an hour. It's very annoying especially when you upload large files (for example 16-20MB) to your mailbox. It drops connection and we get Limited Access and you can try to upload again and again. Anotner example during VOIP conversations for example on skype it drops and disconnects skype.

Firmware was never updated just router was bought with this firmware. We are located in China so its correct.

When laptops are connected using LAN cable it works fine but its impossible to keep laptops connected using LAN cables all the time.

The problem occurs only when we are connected by wireless.

QOS is enabled, WISH is enabled.

When QOS and WISH disabled it's same also drops connections on WIFI.

Did you meet such problem before?

Maybe you have any solution for that?

Some things to try:
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?

Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
Try turning off Short GI, WLAN Partition,and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

I have MIXED b,g,n with Enable Auto Channel Scan ON and Transmission Rate Best Automatic

Its Auto I will try tomorrow morning change for 20 only

WPA2 Only - that is correct.

No cordless phones. Only VOIP - SNOM (very reliable brand) phones connected by LAN canle.
Lots of WIFI routers in there (at this time 28 other WIFI routers some WPA prottected some WEP. No collisions. Checked on BackTrack.

I tried to turn off WISH (not working still dropping).
WPS? Wi-Fi Protected Setup is ON I will try to turn it off tomorrow morning
WLAN Partition is OFF
Short GI is ON I will try to turn it off tomorrow morning
WIFI protection is ON I will try to turn it off tomorrow morning

I'm a little bit familiar with networking   (before: developer of slackware linux, openbsd, solaris and later opensolaris).

We never met such problems before using netgear routers. This problem occurs only on wireless and only on DIR-655.

Thank you very kindly for your help. I will try to manage all things tomorrow morning and will let you know asap.

By the way: we have fiber optic on PPPoE but this doesn't change anything because on LAN cable connections net is working excellent. Only WIFI has problems.

If this is only happening with WiFi connection and you have 28 other Wifi routers around, then your probably experiencing WiFi congestion. Theres only a limited number of channels for routers to use and if other near by routers are using them of and over lapping on some, then when each router is set for automatic, and has to try to find a better channel to use, it has to stop, drop connections and then try to find a new one. Any one using 5Ghz channels over there? You might check out a 5Ghz router and use adapters to see if that has better connections since it seems that your 2.4Ghz wireless seems crowded.

5Ghz as I know DIR-655 doesn't support 5GHz I think only 855 can do it.

Ok what I'm trying to do right now:

Enable Auto Channel Scan : OFF

Wireless Channel : only 11

For over 7 hours I'm trying to upload a 16MB file to my gmail mailbox lets see what'll happen.

Correct, the 655 doesn't support 5Ghz and yes the DIR-855 does if you have it. The DIR-8 series routers support 5Ghz.

Also try using single mode G or N or Mixed G and N. No need to broadcast A or B modes of your not using them.

Maybe its coincidence but its working fine right now and at last file is loaded.

We will see tomorrow during more testing.

Awesome, keep us posted if you seem to have other problems. Hope it continues to work well for you.
Also, you might try to lower the power output of the radio from High to Medium if your not connected to the router in a great distance between them and test. Might help lower the interference while creating a smaller WiFi foot print.
