...or should i simply give it a go with C98 and L6?...
I think yes, solder to C98 and L6

...does it matter which side I solder to?...
Yes, this does matter, look at my picture and other pictures in this topic.

Great...thank you. I will give it another attempt. I appreciate your help! I will report back with my results. It will probably be the weekend before I can attempt it.

Opened up one of my cameras and was not able to get the solder to melt with my 30 w iron. So I tried hot glue! Only got a color bar test signal from the camera.

Removed the cap and camera working again. Maybe I only had one side fully connected.

Recommend those who try this, use some sort of solder pen, that may work easier for you.

Okay, now both the the 930L, and the 932L is modded pr. tip from Freeride. IT WORKS!
PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING THIS A STICKY, MODERATOR!
Almost all the horizontal noise is gone.
I cant believe dlink let so poor products out the door!
And people have been complaining over this this noise problem for so long, and then it turns out to be a poor product design, so easy to fix!

Anyway here is the mod done:

I suggest you send mommono a PM message on here to see if he's still around and can fix the face book links or content. These links are no longer working.
Let see if we can get a sticky made here in the forums with the correct content.

...or should i simply give it a go with C98 and L6?...
I think yes, solder to C98 and L6

...does it matter which side I solder to?...
Yes, this does matter, look at my picture and other pictures in this topic.

Well, I was unable to get the solder to stick so I used hot glue. My board also only has C98 and L6. I used a 470uf 10v because the place I ordered the capacitor from sent me 10v by mistake instead of 6.3v.

With that capacitor installed to those points, I get no picture at all from the camera. Remove it, picture returns.

Do you think it's because of the 10v instead of 6.3v, or do you think the C98 and L6 are not really correct?

Also, do you have any tips on using the solder?

My understanding is that the 10v on the capacitor is more of a maximum, so that shouldn't matter. So maybe C98 and L6 are incorrect?  But they are in the same spot as  C39 and L8 in the original instructions. So I am confused.

I did do minus and plus correctly, so it's not that either.

I actually figured it out, fixed my camera.

Because the steps in this thread aren't totally clear and a lot of pictures are missing, I made a YouTube video for anyone that wants to do this fix. Maybe a mod can put my video in the sticky?

Thanks Mommono,

If you could possibly update this thread with a step by step guide and be as detailed as possible, it would be greatful. Then we can move this to a FAQ section for central use for everyone.

Thank you.

I finally got around to fixing the low light noise issue with a few of my 930L's. Here is my step by step.

Squeeze the case at the top and bottom and the clip on upper side will be exposed. Slide something thin in that spot to keep it open. then working down and around with a pry tool. It's easiest to pry the bottom of the case out to release the clips.

Case apart.

These are the capacitors I bought from Amazon.

Identify where new capacitor will connect. Negative lead to lower side of C39. Positive lead to upper side of L8

Bend capacitor leads so they connect with the board capacitors C39 and L8.

Make sure leads will connect to board.

Hot glue capacitor in place to make sure it doesn't move during soldering. Added a very small dab of flux for a good solder joint.

Soldered on. Careful not to bridge anything when soldering. Cleaned area (flux residue) with alcohol and a q-tip.
