The RT-66u had issues with WAN connection with DD-WRT,Tomato, And STOCK lol it sucked!

I`ve had a Dlink 825 before and had slow down issue which required to me reboot it on both stock and DD-WRT and it was a brand new one that was about 7 months ago.

I thought about a 655 or how well is the 865l? since its on sale?

I placed an order last night for an RT-N56u which I had the best luck with before, But still have dlink on my mind haha.

Also dont need USB ports I know they are always slow it would kill me haha, I have a Windows Server which also acts as a file server.

I really WANT the DGL-4500 but im worried about the slow CPU 275mhz but not sure cause Ubicom is supposed to be good but I DO have a lot of network load.

You still have the 825 or was it returned. I've enjoyed my 825 Rev B. Very zippy.

Both 655 and 865L routers are great routers. The 655 is only 2.4Ghz and is getting old too. Not sure how much longer it will be current.

I've been enjoying the 865L when I have it online. I'm currently testing the 826L, and must say I'm impressed. Great follow on to the 825. Others are currently enjoying the 865L as well.

What is your network load like? I mostly gaming with 2 xboxes and do normal internet stuff. Not much router load here so not sure if i'm a good comparison.

About 25 LAN and 3 or 4 WiFi, 5ghz is no biggie only phones connect to it lol, I do a lot of torrenting, and have a media streaming PC so lot of local lan transfers

I sold the 825.

For some weird reason I`m really wanting to try the DGL-4500 But I`m afraid I`ll have too many problems.

I just want a GOOD Routing Performance Router That will Work without having to touch it, I used to like DD-WRT but not really needed anymore.


Okay Here is My List Currently just Cancelled my Other Order Amazon is slow anyway.

So what Should I go for.

I just want a router that can Route VERY good no Youtube Buffering and such, Right now using an Older Netgear WNR1000 its Terrible I can get my full speed but pages and youtube are horrible.

Well ONE thing you should really do, specially if you do lots of Local LAN side xfers, get you a external Gb Network switch to put after the router then connect your LAN wired devices to it. This will help you eliminate un-necessary router processing and keep those file xfers separate and give more of a direct connection between the LAN side wired devices.

Then for your torrents, connect that PC directly to the back of the router if you want to.

I think if you do this this will help ease your router load and maybe the 4500 would be a good router for you. This is the same setup I use. I have a boxee box that streams directly from my file server connected via switch. Then xbox consoles are directly connected to the router for un-interrupted gaming.

Would look like this:
ISP Modem>DLink router>External Network Switch<>Wired LAN clients connected to switch.
                                 >Other wired LAN client(s) connected directly to back of router if needed.

If you had all those issues my guess would be you either got a defective unit or there was a problem outside of the router. But what ever, of those choices I would say the DIR-825. All of those can't hold a candle to the RT-N66U though. Ask on any DD-WRT forum. ::shrug::

Ive actualy been curios about this.. I usually use the first 3 ports for the main stuff Server, My main Computer, And Media PC for TV, then 4th port for switch. So I should just use my Switch does that really help? I thought it would still have to pass back through the router first.

I have a Perfect Connection to the Cable Company and I`m the only one besides the few workers there that are on the DOSIS3 streams everyone else is on 1 stream and I`m on 4 streams, Its a local cable company. The wan drops on the ASUS for some reason when it says the lease exspires but I have a STATIC IP so it never changes nor exspires never happend on any other router before.

Ya man, think about it, you'll still get internet and data back and forth from the router when needed however when doing lots of file xfers, why not go a more direct route with out any router processing. USE your switch man. You'll see a difference between those wired devices.

Up to you man, The 4500 is a great router and so is the 825. The 4500 no longer being developed on. Really, doesn't need anything else. LOL, if your ok with just using 2.4Ghz and don't have a need for 5ghz and IPv6, then 4500 is good. The 825 is a bit more flexible as it can do both radios at the same time and does have support for IPv6.

What model and mfr is the ISP modem?

If your on cable, make sure the cable line going into the ISP modem is in good working condition and there isn't any t.v. line splitters before the modem. These can reduce signal or cause noise on the line.

No TV just internet, (There Lineup sucks haha) It runs directly outside to the power line no spltter I wanted to make direct connection.

Sounds like you might have had the A1 version. Did you buy it right when it came out? Anyway, Im not dogging on Dlink. For the price point your going for Dlink is pretty much head of the class. Just saying your comparing a 160$ router to a 60$ router..and 2 which are over 2 years old. Take that under consideration when setting performance expectations.

The 825 was not too long ago and the RT-N66u was a few days ago it got sent back next day lol it was Terrible for me I know it was prob a dud but 169 for a router is a lot.

So Grrr Between the 826L or DGL-4500
