Cannot connect to Dir655 router drive?
« on: May 26, 2013, 12:17:06 PM »

Using Sharepoint to connect to D-Link Dir-655 router drive

I have a D-Link Dir-655 router that I have updated with firmware V2.10NA
I am using sharepoint 3.1.0 32 bit installation.
The above is the latest versions according to the D-Link webpage.

I have a hard drive connected to my D-Link router USB port.
I updated my D-Link 655 with the fireware v2.10NA mentioned above
then install sharepont.
The I start the computer and let it make connections.
Then I open sharepoint and make connection.

I see a USB Icon on my bottom tray and I see router drive in computer management
under device manager.

The problem is I may or may not see it in windows explorier. If I turn
the computer off I will not see the router drive in the next computer
session.

What is the problem and why do I only see the drive after first sharepoint
install?

Thank you,

I have updated the FW for this router but there may be beta versions that may be better
to use but I don't know which FW is best for this router.
So you think using Sharepoint 4.11 for router DIR-835 on router DIR-655 might be a solution?
Still looking for a solution.
Thank you,

There isnt any Beta FW versions available.

Tryed it and it did not work. With 4.11 I did not even see the router drive in device manager.
With my previous version of sp I saw the drive in device manager most of the time.
Could advast virous protection and windows firewall be causing problems?

My router is hardware version B1.

Disable any 3rd party security temporarily and test again.
What size is the drive you are using?

I turned off security and had no luck.
The drive is a Segate Go Flex 2 & 3 USB drive. I think it is 2 Terabytes

You most likely need to go into Disk Management on the computer and create a partition and format the drive.

I don't know.
I went to my wired computer and went into the router webpage
I checked & unchecked Enable "SharePort For Guest Zone" and the router drive
showed up in windows file explorer. I tuned the computer on/off and it did it consistantly
showed up in windows file explorer for 3 times. I get up this morning and I could
not get the drive to come up in file explorer. So I went back and ckecked
"Enable SharePort For Guest" box in the router software and rebooted. The drive showed
up in file explorer. I don't understand why I see the drive in file explorer at times and I don't
see it at other times. When the drive is there I can copy files to it but getting it to
consistantly come up in file explorer is a problem.
Still trying to figure it out.

Do all that mentioned in the previous post then I restart the wired
computer again and the router drive does not show up in windows
files explorer. There is nothing consistant about the d-link software.

Is there any other software that I might upgrade to solve this problem?
It is so attempting to keep working this since it worked a few times
but I am puzzled on why it does not consist.

Seems that if the drive is being see periodically on the PC then disappears, possible cause could be something on the PC or maybe the drive is spinning down into a sleep mode and not re-waking or receiving a wake signal when something tried to re-access it.

What size is the drive you are using?
How is it formatted? NTFS, FAT32 or Mfr formatting?

It is a 3 Tarabyte drive with its own power?
Maybe I should try a different drive?
Any suggestion on what type?
It was formatted by the manufacture.
It a Seagate GoFlex Drive. Its a nice drive

It's been hit and miss with using drive sizes 1Tb and above. I think D-Link told me that 500Gb is max supported on DIR series routers.

I would try a different size drive, 500Gb or less as a test if you have a spare or even barrow one just to see if it act differently.
