I have an issue with my iPhones. Both are Iphone 4s using iOS 6.1.3 and both are connected to my network and I can access the internet with no problems. I can eprint fine and I can print wirelessly from 3 laptops and one desktop with no issues at all. When I try to AirPrint from either iPhone, I get the message saying "No AirPrint printers found". I have a D-Link DIR-657 router Hardware Version: A1   Firmware Version: 1.02  with multicasting enabled. The printer is an HP D110a with Bonjour and IPP enabled. Everything I have read says I should be able to print, but neither phone will. Does anyone have any ideas?

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.

• Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options, Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
• Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual or under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.
• Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
• Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Link>Finding Faster DNS Addresses using Name Bench
• Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
• Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
• If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.
• Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
• Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules. Try Disabling IPv4/6 Multi-cast Streaming for routers that have a Media Server option. Disable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming if IPv6 or Media Server is not being used.
• Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
• WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
• Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP Server feature. Tools/Time.

Wireless Configurations

• Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
• What wireless modes are you using?
• 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
• Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
• Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
• What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
• If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI, WLAN Partition, HT 20/40 Co-exhistance and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
• Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Midwest United States. Why does that matter?
Wireless, obviously. Hence the AirPrint question.
Didn't know I was supposed to do a reset BEFORE a firmware update.
The router works fine other than allowing me to print from either iPhone.


WMM is enabled and all the others you suggested are default settings.

I've posted to their forum, but people who use Apple products and Apple themselves think their poop doesn't stink so the problem has to be elsewhere.

I think there was some information over on the DIR-655 about Airplay recently llike in the past 6 months about Airplay. You might do a search there and over here:

Yes, leave it to Apple to create a software program like Bonjour to enable a feature that works just fine for Microsoft without a separate software program. 

I've looked through the other forums threads, and tried everything that also applies to my router and nothing seems to work.

Possible there is a setting we are missing or maybe that Apple protocol isn't compatible with the 657. I guess the next step that I would do would be to try a different model router to see or get on the phone and ask for level 2 or higher support with D-Link and ask them about this.

I suppose I can give this a go with my 657 and printer and iPhone 4S if you list me steps to get it installed. I have a HP LaserJet P2014n wired and USB only printer, so it has no wireless. I presume I should be able to print to it or does the printer need to have wireless?

I haven't tried hardwiring the printer because it is too far from the router for a standard cable to reach.

The setup was standard wireless setup, WPA-PSK security and nothing else. I have no problems at all connecting to the router and the internet. The only issue is when my iPhones try to find the printer. Oddly, there were about 3 times I was able to print to it. But 99.9% of the time, no dice.

Hmm, would be a good test if you can move the printer to try wired.
If you got it working a couple of times, wonder if there is something in the configuration of Airprint maybe thats almost there...

Tried hardwiring the printer to the router. The SharePort utility connected the printer just fine but I was still unable to print to it with my iPhone. This was after spending an hour on the phone with 3 people at D-Link's tech support who really have no clue what is going on. They also wanted to transfer me (and my credit card) to the upper level of tech support to see if they could do anything for me. I told them they were crazy to think I was going to pay money to get a 3 month old router which is still under warranty to do what my 6 year old Linksys router will do.

Can you list me out what you do to set up the iPhones to print?
Are there any apps to install on the phone?
Are there specific sites you are printing or something I can replicate?

I'll connect my 657 up and see if I can get mine to print with the 657 and my printer.

Sorry it took so long to reply. There is nothing that needs to be done, really. If I need to print, I touch the print icon on the phone, it looks for a compatible printer, finds my HP D110a then I touch the print button. At least that's how it worked when I reinstalled my old Linksys WRT54G2 router Monday just to test my theory. I had it connected for an hour and any time I wanted to print from my iPhone, I was still connected to the printer. After I reconnected my D-Link DIR-657, I was able to see the printer for about 2 minutes before the router shut me out. I tried a firmware "upgrade" back to version 1.01 and it does the exact same thing as beta version 1.02 does. Since print functions were there with the Linksys router but not the D-Link, that proves to me that the problem lies in the router. What can be done to fix this?

Can you try the following?
Set the WiFi mode on the 657 from Mixed all mode to Single mode G, 20Mhz Only, WPA and TPIK only.
You'll need to reconnect the printers WiFi and the iphone to the routers WiFi SSID again.

Then test with Mixed G and N only, 20Mhz, WPA2 and AES Only.

Keep us posted.

It is currently set for N, G & B but it had been set for N & G only (by default). WPA2 doesn't seem to be an option as it will only allow WPA Personal or Enterprise. I have tried different channel settings and the higher the number, the less connectivity in general (i.e. channel 6 was okay but when set to channel 11, I had reconnect to the network several times). I currently have it set to channel 1 and connectivity is not an issue. I was even able to find the printer this morning, but I also did not have my laptop powered up. I'll test THAT theory tonight.
