How you create the folder shouldn't matter (through Windows Explorer or the DNS-345).
Let's assume you have three directories/folders with photos in your DNS-345 and you want to give specific users access to specific folders:
- Family_Photo_Folder_1
- Family_Photo_Folder_2
- Personal_Photo_Folder_3
Option 1Create users and individually provide access permissions to the folders they need to see.
Option 2Alternatively, if you have many users that will need the same access, you can use the concept of Security Groups.
First create the necessary groups:
- Family_Group
- Personal_Group
Next, associate the Groups to the required folders/directories:
- Family_Group -> Read Access to Family_Photo_Folder_1
- Family_Group -> Read Access to Family_Photo_Folder_2
- Personal_Group -> Read/Write Access to Personal_Photo_Folder_3
Next, create user accounts:
- User_1
- User_2
- User_3
- User_4
- User_5
Finally, add users to the proper Groups:
- User_1 -> Family_Group
- User_2 -> Family_Group
- User_3 -> Family_Group
- User_4 -> Family_Group
- User_4 -> Personal_Group
- User_5 -> Personal_Group
Result:
- User_1, User_2, and User_3 will have access to Family_Photo_Folder_1 and Family_Photo_Folder_2
- User_5 will have access to Personal_Photo_Folder_3
- User_4 will have access to Family_Photo_Folder_1, Family_Photo_Folder_2, and Personal_Photo_Folder_3
The benefit of this approach is if you create a new folder with photos, you can simply add the new folder to the Family_Group one time and
all users in the group will automatically have access. This avoids the need to adjust every user account. Similarly, if you want to add a new user, rather than configuring all the user settings, you can simply add the new user to an existing group.
