Test FTP failure with Video Clip
« on: November 24, 2013, 07:06:50 PM »

Send video clips via FTP is not working. It returns error message: "Test FTP failure".

Steps to reproduce issue:
1. Navigate to SETUP > VIDEO CLIP
2. Check VIDEO CLIP, Trigger by: MOTION
3. Target: FTP
4. Click TEST button. Folders are created with the current date, folder contain .jpg files at motion detection. But the filesize are always zero. And files are only .jpg. Expected result are video files, such as .mp4

Connecting with a FTP tool such as Filezila worked. But using D-Link it's not working.

Using:
* DCS-5222L
* Hardware revision, H/W Ver.: A3
* Firmware information:
** Firmware Version: 1.12
** Firmware Build Number: 3404
** Current MCU Firmware Version: 0x15
** Current Agent Version: 2.0.17-b42
* Wired with Cat6 cable

Settings:
* Video Clip: Checked
* Path: abc
* Trigger by: Motion
* Passive Mode: Unchecked

I see the "Test" button

Can other DCS-5222L owners replicate/validate this issue?
Or asking the converse question, do other DCS-5222L owners use FTP without the issue described by the OP?

My issue at http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=54680.msg209798#msg209798 is never resolved, all other D-link cams works fine with FTP on the same server, same router...... But 5222 webcam is generating only zero-byte files.

Glad to read i'am not the only one with FTP-problems......

Still no new firmware available for DCS-5222L hardware revision A3

Our camera hardware revision is A3

For hardware revision A the latest firmware version is 1.11, it was release on 09/10/2013

For hardware revision B the latest firmware version is 2.00.05, it was release on 01/23/2014

The FTP feature was the primary reason we choose that model. We hope a new firmware will be release for hardware revision A so we don't have to return the camera.

How do I find my Hardware Version?
Note: The hardware version of your product will be marked with H/W
Directly on the Product:   The hardware version can be found at the bottom or back of the device on the Product label.
On the Box:   The Model number can be found on the product sticker at the bottom of the box.

JavaLawyer, we just tried firmware update_DCS-5211L_DCS-5222L_1.11_2825.bin (1-16-2014) that was upload today, confirming it does not fix the issue. FTP filesize are still always zero.

It seems firmware update_DCS-5211L_DCS-5222L_1.11_2825.bin posted 1-16-2014 is the same version as the firmware version 1.11 we already use DCS-5222L_FIRMWARE_1.11.bin posted 09/10/2013 from http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DCS-5222L

The firmware we already use and the one uploaded today both display the same Firmware information is it normal?
Current Firmware Version:1.11

We just tried firmware v1.12 that was upload today, it is titled "update_DCS-5211L_DCS-5222L_1.12_3404.bin" (05/12/14), confirming it does not fix the issue. FTP filesize are still always zero. Using same steps as above first post.

The new firmware v1.12 for product revision A is available at http://support.dlink.ca/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DCS-5222L under "Download" tab. For other countries search http://dlink.com

I presume you mean v.1.12 rather than 1.2?

Hi,

I'm surprized that this subject seems to be not cleared.

I've just bought a DCS-5222LB1.
I tried many options to record movement detection clips with the web interface (192.168.....setup.htm).

I've managed to receive notification mails and record clips on a shared folder in my home local network.

But I can't specify a FTP server .
All my attemps end on 'Test Error' with no explanations.

I use parameters that I put in my windows FTP client (server : ftpperso.free.fr), user and password) with no problem.

I tried in passive or active mode.
Never worked.

what shall i do ?

I bought this camera because of this functionality.
Recording clips on a HDD wich can be stolen has no senses.

Regards,
Charles

It seems my issues come from "Destination folder".
I tried "/" as i did in my regular client.

Here, you must not specify the first /
so, I put www and i found a file in /www.

I don't have any detection clip for the moment but i have some hope.

Regards.

That was the solution! I don't believe it! Finally it shows "Test OK" for the FTP function.  :o

I was trying for days to get the FTP function to work. It worked on a Filezilla Server at my Desktop PC, but not on my ftp server on the net. I made countless tests, double-checked that all settings from my working DCS-5020 camera were exactly the same on my new DCS-5222L.

And now I see that I should have just left the first Slash from the "Remote Path Folder Name" out to get the FTP function to work. Oh man, please keep stuff like that more consistent in your product line!  ;D

Very well, here is my note for everybody else who is struggling with the FTP upload function. If you upgrade from a DCS-5020 to a DCS-5222, you can basically use the same FTP parameters you are used to. With one important change however: remove the first slash "'/" from the directory.

If it looks like this on the DCS-5020: /camera/pictures/upload
...change it to this on your DCS-5222: camera/pictures/upload

Yes, it was really that simple.  ;)
