Recording from DCS-5020L to DNS-327L
« on: April 21, 2014, 06:45:28 AM »

I have a DNS-327L and a DCS-5020L set up. I would like to record the videos from the 5020 to the 327L. At the moment I seem to be only able to do this if my computer is on and my DViewCam app is running.

Is there any way I can get the recording to continue even if my computer and DViewCam app is switched off?

Assuming that is not possible, if I was to change to a DCS-5222L instead, would I be able to record to my DNS-327L without having to leave the computer and DViewCam on?

Thanks in advance.

The DNS-327L has an add-on called My Surveillance that can manage all of the recordings from multiple D-Link network cameras on your LAN. Using this add-on, there is no need to use D-ViewCam as the internal DNS-327L application manages/schedules all monitoring and recording.

Thanks very much. Unfortunately the My Surveillance add-on cannot seem to recognise / identify my DCS-5020L. When I read through the manual for DNS-327L, it also said that DCS-5020L was not one of the supported cameras at the moment but with new cameras to be added in future.

I also tried to search for the 5020L manually but it could not be detected.

Does that mean that my best hope is to wait for the My Surveillance app to be updated to include the 5020L?

Log into the DNS-327L web UI and navigate to Home > My Folder > My Surveillance. If you are opening My Surveillance for the first time, right click on the My Surveillance icon and select Enable.

Thanks. Yes I have already clicked on "Enable" and am able to open the My Surveillance page ok. However it just shows 4 blank camera screens and the auto-detect function was not able to detect my 5020L (which shows up fine on DView Cam etc). I also tried to search for camera manually but could not find the 5020L either.

The app may need to be updated to support the newer D-Link Cloud Camera models. I tried a trick that worked on the Surveillance Center add-on that comes with the DNS-345.  Manually configure a new camera and select the model DCS-930 and use the DNS-5020L IP address and un/pw credentials. This approach works with my DCS-5020L, although the PTZ functions are disabled since it's the wrong camera model. The "DCS-930" in particular was the only model on the menu that worked for me.

Please post back after you've tried this.  ;)

Thanks. In fact that was exactly what I was trying. By selecting the DCS-930 model, I am able to get the My Surveillance app to find the camera and I can now see it on Liveview. I will now test out the recording function (even with turning my computer off) and see if it works.

Cheers

Everything should work as expected, with no PC dependencies.

Unfortunately, all of the iterations of "My Surveillance" and "Surveillance Center" suffer from this same shortfall. We're waiting on an updated version of the add-on that supports D-Link's next gen cameras.

Please post back after you've completed your testing. If your tests are successful, which I presume they will be, I'll post a sticky with this workaround procedure.

Yes so far it seems to be working. Recording continues on even without PC (and DViewCam) on. I had a problem with the motion detect though. After I turned Motion Detect on, the recording stopped - I tried increasing sensitivity and playing around with the motion detect areas but it didn't work.

Recording also didn't come back on after I disabled motion detect.

Eventually I just did a re-install (deleted the camera and then re-installed). Did not touch the motion detect option and it works now.

I've got my surveillance running.  How do I record and back up to 327?

When you press the record button on the My Surveillance GUI, the add-on automatically saves captured video to the DNS-327L.

The DNS-327L user manual contains instructions on how to configure and use the My Surveillance add-on (Page 323): My Surveillance - User  Manual

When you press the record button on the My Surveillance GUI, the add-on automatically saves captured video to the DNS-327L.

Where does it save?
