I believe channel 1 was autoselected before I began trying manual channels.  I've switched to channel 11 and will monitor and update here.

Today the DIR 655 reset itself again at 1:47PM CST.  It went almost two days without a reset.  I'll work on posting a wifi diagnostics screenshot tonight.  What other recommendations do you have?  The router was on channel 1 (autoselected) before I manually switched it.

Please post a pic of the WiFi surrounding when you get a chance...

  • Try setting Medium or Low power output settings and test again Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Here's a screenshot of Apple's Wireless Diagnostics tool.  It's summary says:

Crowded Channel, says channel 11 is crowded and I should set the router to automatic channel (which I was doing initially), or use 5GHz band, which the DIR 655 doesn't support.

Strangely, the screenshot summary says current channel is 6, but it's 11.

I also have this router. I'm unclear on the screen capture you posted. Are both networks showing -49 rssi yours? I'd think it might be only if you were using guest zone, but just for clarification. From what traffic you have I'd move to Ch 1.

Yes, both -49 rssi networks are mine (it's the same network).. I'm not sure why two appear, but I have a  hidden SSID, so perhaps that's it.  I'll try to manually set to channel 1, although it had been autoselected before I began manually changing the channel.

To uncomplicate things, if guest network is enabled I'd disable it. If its not enablled I'd wonder what that is. Two networks, same channel, same strengh, can't be good. I'd assume the ssid's that are not broadcast better be unique (usually the guest acct would have guest in its ssid).

No guest account enabled, and I agree it's peculiar.  I just verified that the MAC addresses are the same, so it's definitely the same network (mine).

Perhaps the OS X wireless tool displays two entries for hidden networks: one with the actual name and one without.  Not sure why though since it's confusing.

I'm suspecting that its a problem with your modem. Here is a similar post on another forum with issues of disconnects and a dlink router. Maybe worth looking into the modem settings, or asking ATT.
