Disappointed with this "cloud router"
« on: April 01, 2015, 03:29:43 PM »

Right so, I bought this thing in December 2014, thinking I'd upgrade from my cicso e1000 router.  Every day I'd notice disconnects with it running at 1-50 kbps on steam downloads with browser timeouts.  So today I whip out the old E1000 while the 810 is doing it's little lag dance and guess what happens?  Speeds are as high as can be, maxing out my 25 MBPS isp plan.

Now this thing's settings are @ default and unfortunately the lag was pretty abysmal, what gives?

What applications are you noticing this "lag"? Gaming? General Internet Surfing? Downloading?

What are your currently QoS settings configured for?

There is v2.03 FW available as well...

Hello, I notice the lag for anything I try to do online:
browsing
downloading a game on steam
playing a game
filezilla
youtube
etc.

QoS is disabled and I'm about to apply the latest firmware to it right now.

Ok Use the FW update process. Don't load any saved config files for now. Just factory reset after the upload and then set up from scratch.

Turn ALL other devices OFF accept for the one wired PC.
Disable all PC security SW while updating and testing.

Post your speed test results as well.

That is what we usually average when doing the speedtest, so far today though, no drops.

I can upload router & modem logs if it helps.

U should confirm with your ISP if the modem signal levels are good for there system. I recommend that you have your ISP check the cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. For DSL or Fiber service lines, ensure that the ISP is using good working phone or cable lines to the DSL modem and that the phone lines are filtered correctly. For cable Internet, RG-6 coaxial cable is needed, not RG-59. Check for t.v. line splitters and remove them as they can introduce noise on the line and lower the signal going to the ISP modem. I recommend having the ISP service physically check the lines going from the out side to the ISP modem. Connecting to the ISP modem could result in a false positive as the signal to the modem could be just enough to that point then adding on a router, could see problems. The router operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.

Your signal levels are fine. You're not bonding on the upstream though, but that may be normal, depends if they use channel bonding on the upstream. I know they do with Cox. Tried checking on your ISP support site, and even calling them (I was bored) and all I can say is wow. Their support system is BAAAD, and this is from someone who used to work at Cox. The best I could do was find this the PDF below that shows a modem bonding on the upstream (blue light) but that could be a stock photo. +1 Calling ISP to check.

Also, could you post the logs? Just be sure to edit out your modem (CM) MAC address before posting.

here's the log as requested and I managed to get video of what I meant by when it's lagging.

https://www.dropbox.com/home?preview=Arris+log.html

Should be available here if it uploads without issue.

Do you get good speeds when directly connected to the ISP modem?
Can you test a different PC to see if the same thing happens with that PC while wired to the 810L?

This video capture was before or after updating to v2.03?

Yes it makes no difference if I hook it up to modem/computer minus router.

It tends to drop all connections: wifi and wired even with a different computer: a laptop hooked straight to it.  It happens at random, sometimes with a few hours inbetween dropping.

That was after the FW update and 2-3 factory resets as per what the guide says.

Wait, if it makes no difference and it does this while direct connected to the ISP modem then the issue is either the PC or thr ISP modem.
