DIR-655 / Time Warner ISP / Connection Problem
« on: November 09, 2007, 10:38:06 AM »

Hello Fellas..

Ive been probing around the posts and read of the same problems other users have like mine.  But none have yet to find a formal resolution to the problem.  Not to mention in those posts, people have a tendency to change subjects which drives me nuts!!!  Because that SPECIFIC issue is still not resolved.

I have a DIR-655 w/ 1.10 using TWC as my ISP.  I get constant disconnections for approx 30 seconds.  Wireless and hard wire.

Dlink is no help!  They say that my router is probably resetting itself so try this and try that...

So far I have UPNP OFF and SPI OFF.  I already tried the advanced networking field and sped up the threshold, still no avail.

May someone be so kind to offer your expertise to help me and other potential users resolve this PLEASE.

I truly appreciate it!

If you've looked around, you know that help doesn't come immediately.  I posted a question earlier today and hopefully I'll get a reply sometime in the next few days.  Luckily I'm not too concerned with my particular problem, so it's not a real issue for me.

Anyway, I believe I read a post about a firmware being released soon (1.11) that addresses connection issues with various ISPs.  Hopefully this firmware release will solve your problem - and hopefully it will be released sometime this week.

How long have you had the router? Has this always been an issue?

I also have Time-Warner(NY Capital Region). Have had no issues with this router.  It has been up and running for 16 days straight (day I updated to 1.10 firmware).

Yeah I had this problem since day one.  Strangest thing though is that mt old DIR-624 works fine..  Dlink reps cant find any problems and if they know they cant help me them ask me to hold and hang up purposely!  The exact modem works fine with Verizon DSL.  I know its not the unit since I bought another one tested it and returned it..  So I dont know whether its TWC or something else..

The TWC modem is from Toshiba.  I believe I had this modem for 4-5 yrs..  Think it could be that problem?

I also have TW in my home. I have tested multiple DIR-655 Revisions and Firmwares.
I have a RCA DCM-425, I've never had this issue.
The best thing I could suggest is disable the QoS and lock the routers WAN port to 10Mbps.

The QoS is already off and I dont changing to 10Mbps would eliminate the 655 resetting problem.  How that you mention it, do you think it could be the Toshiba modem?  After all, it is quite old.......?

It very well could be. Is there a way you could try another modem?

Im gonna get a Motorola Cable Modem from BestBuy and give it a final GO.  If not, I may have to end up buying a different MFGR router and try that route.

Call Time-Warner and tell them you are having difficulties with the modem, the should replace it for free.  You will most likely  get a much newer model.

I got a new RCA modem..  Works great...

BUT 655 STILL REBOOTING!

Have any of the DLink engineers come to any conclusions as to why and what needs to be done?  This is really letting us DLink fans go to another mfgr.

Personally, I am going to give this another few months and if none of the future firmwares dont fix it, I will have to go with Linksys or Belkin...

I noticed the DIR-655 price has dropped A LOT on ebay and in retail.....  I wonder why...........
