750 video output resets frequently
« on: July 12, 2009, 09:56:26 AM »

As happens every now and then the extender has problems displaying video (via WMC interface) and I normally just power it off and back on again.

It seems whenever I do that I have a better than 50% chance that the 750 will "forget" it's video output, and reset itself to composite 480i.  So of course I have to go CHANGE my tv input from HDMI to component and rerun the video ouput config from the main menu.

This is a big annoyance - is Dlink planning any firrmware updates to this unit?  I'm starting to think we may not see much.  Seems that most companies didn't do well selling MCX boxes (I think Linksys discontinued their lines).  Maybe the problem is that these matured product lines (the v2 extenders) didn't become available until we were already amidst a major worldwide recession... - bad timing to try to develop a new market for a luxury item I suppose.

I have no idea why you experience the malfunctions you do, however, I think you're right about the probable discontinuation of extenders. There doesn't seem to be enough of a market. I doubt we'll see many firmware updates in the near future.

i have experienced something like this as well, i will be watching something, i am using mine in upnp mode, not the extender mode and when i stop a movie the unit will reboot and reset itself and i have to set everything up again ...

i also agree we won't be seeing many if any firmware updates which is a shame because these units are great in my opinion

If you have anything else in the area that uses a wireless connection, like a PS3, Xbox 360, or Wii, you will find that it will screw up your connection and reset all the settings. I have to make sure I haven't left anything on. This has been verified. It has happened 10-15 times since I have owned it. Through a process of elimination, it doesn't happen anymore. ;)

hey fly, are you running your 750 in wired or wireless mode?  i am in wired mode and it still happens, i do have a ps3 and wii in the other room but they are turned off so i think, i will keep my eye on it ...

what about a wireless laptop, i guess that would be the same as the ps3 would it not, as i have 2 wireless laptops on all the time which would explain this behaviour?

I have mine connected wireless. I dont know if your laptops would be affecting it or not. Try turning them off or disabling the wireless connection on the laptops when you use the 750.

was yours happening every time?  i bet it only happens once a month and the laptops are on 24 x 7 so not sure that would be the reason but i will investigate and see what i can find

Dudes check your cable connections on the back of the player... I had this same issue... the pin mounts on the ports are very shallow leading to cable disconnections if you so much as nudge the unit.   ;D

I have the same problem and it is very frustrating.  Whenever I lose the connection/reboot the PC or restart the extender I have a 50/50 chance of losing the output settings.  I have to disconnect the HDMI cable -> switch the tv to composite -> reset the output settings to HDMI -> reconnect the HDMI cable -> change tv to HDMI -> save settings.

My extender has a wired connection and there are no wireless devices near it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can we get a reply from D-Link on this?

At least every 2 days I have to power off, power on, reconfigure for HDMI, reconfigure for widescreen and my tv's 720p resoluition. Every 3-4 days I come down and there is no output, and power off-power on does no good.  I have to unplug the unit, plug it back in, then follow the setup routine.

Do I have a defective unit, or is this simply a defective in the product?  In regards to the users' post about "wireless device interference"  I certainly appreciate the input the user offers for troubleshooting, but to D-Link that is ridiculous.  We live in a world full of wireless devices.  I have laptops, cordless phones, wii, wireless access points etc. etc., and your device should get along with its' neighbors.  (frankly there should be an option to disable the wireless if you are using ethernet.  I simply removed the antennae). My 2nd extender Is is our basement, and from my frustration with the 750 I bought a refurbished Xbox 360 arcade..  Works like a champ, with none of the problems I have with the D-Link.

Can we get a response from D-Link to troubleshoot this very annoying "crashing" of the unit settings?

Does this happen if you power the unit of when not in use daily? It sounds as if you are leaving it on. Also does this happen if you turn the device on and off a few times right now or does it only happen after a few days? Please make sure the composite cabled are disconnected when using HDMI the unit should actually auto detect the HDMI connection.

I don't have composite hooked up, but I do have component and HDMI (as the Component works fine when the unit resets)

I usually leave the unit on.  (Should I be powering it off when not in use?)  Does not happen every day (usually) but every few days I'll run into trouble.  At that point it is unplug, plug in and re-power on.  Then it is a chance it comes back normal, or sometimes it comes back reset.

I'll try it again and disconnect all except the HDMI and see if that helps.

thanks for the reply!

Try using only the HDMI so the auto detection works properly and power off the unit when not in use and see if the issue remains.
