I have just purchased a DIR-825. Set up went through without a hitch. (I have it wired, not wireless at the moment). But I am consistently dropping my connection to the internet/Lan . I have a dual boot system (WinXP-Win7) and it's happening on both platforms, so i know it's not an OS problem. I have reverted to my old DIR-604 out of frustration. I was hoping you might have suggestions or a potential solution before I contact customer support for official help (if it exists) on this matter.

I was having similar problem.  Upgraded to 2.02na on firmware and so far working like a champ.

Can someone please help?  I too was experiencing frequent WAN connection outages with the default Firmware Version: 2.00NA.  I just upgraded to 2.02NA and now it will Not Connect At ALL!  After it applied the new firmware, i hit reset. 

I have Comcast service.  I unplugged the cable modem several times during the ordeal (seems to be required when it encounters a new MAC address). 

Status > Device Info .  Clicked DHCP Release and DHCP Renew which used to solve (very occasional) problems with my old linksys router.  But it won't obtain new IP info and the WAN light (globe icon) on the router stays orange.

I too have the DIR-825 HW:B1 and Comcast, but with no problems.  My original firmware worked fine, but I upgraded to 2.02NA, and it works fine.  In my case, I have the SB5100 Motorola cable-modem.

When upgrading, I did have a few "WTF" moments when figuring-out how to configure the thing.  Initially, I used the CDROM, but that installs an old version of the firmware so I don't do that.  Interestingly, I found if I did a VERY long reset (about 40 seconds), the firmware gets wiped, and the DIR-825 prompts for the binary file when you go to 192.168.0.1.  Since people talk about the difficulty in downgrading firmware, I found this interesting.

Anyway, under WAN/LAN settings (can't recall which; not in front of router), all I did was use the manual config, and tell it to use DHCP (get the IP address via the modem). I didn't have much luck with the "wizard" configuration in the firmware (much less the CDROM). 

I also diabled "DNS Relay" under Network settings, but that seem unrelated to your immediate problem.

Anyone else have any clue why after upgrading to 2.02NA the DIR-825 cannot connect to the internet at all?

I see on another post that you have the SB3100 modem.  Since my SB5100 is several years old, I can only assume that yours is older still (but may be wrong).  You may care to monitor the cable-modem chatter here: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/motorola.  I'm assuming you have the Motorola version, but I did see an SB3100 from another company (maybe purchased by Motorola).

Are you renting it from Comcast?  Maybe you could swap for a newer model?  I've been thinking about upgrading my cable-modem, but at them moment "it ain't broke", so, well, you know...

You might well find a different router works fine, but *if* your cable-modem is old, it may be worth looking there too.

Yeah, I've been renting it from Comcast for a long while.  it could be.  But then, why did it kind of work with the 2.00NA firmware?  By kind of work, I mean, it worked except for about every thirty minutes the WAN connection would go down then come back up and it was my understanding that 2.02NA would fix that issue. 

The firmware upgraded without issue...rebooted itself and the web-based admin screen showed the upgraded firmware number.  The DHCP server worked and connected machines could ping one another with assigned ip addresses.  The DHCP client in the router somehow broke and cannot get ip address from comcast.  I haven't tried setting a static wan ip because that won't work for me....i.e. - it won't automatically update dns server ips which comcast changes all the time in my area. 

Pluged the old linksys router back in and reboot the cable modem, internet works fine. 

Anyone have an idea besides ship it back to newegg for a refund?  Thanks, -Ryan

I am having exactly the same problem you are, except with a DSL modem and Earthink.  An hour with DLink level 3 tech support did not help.  Now I have to decide whether to ship it back to Amazon or shelve it until new firmware is available.

(Press the reset button for more that 30 secs)

...also, ...check for MAC address cloning.  Older cable modems are famous for this.

PapaBaugh, if Comcast is constantly changing its DNS Server IPs in you area, why not try some DNS Servers that are constant...like the Level 3 DNS Servers.  4.2.2.1, 4.2.2.2, 4.2.2.3, 4.2.2.4, 4.2.2.5 and 4.2.2.6   I've used these before with good results, better results with 4.2.2.3 (Primary) and 4.2.2.4 (Secondary).

Use the MAC Address Clone within the router.  Try typing in the modem's MAC address first because with cable companys, usually all that matters is the modem MAC address...everything after the modem they don't care about.  If that doesn't work...maybe they registered the MAC address of a primary PC in your home.  Try typing that into the MAC Address Clone.  One of those MAC addresses has to work....more likely the modem address.

One last note...when you set the DNS Servers in the router, you have to either reboot all PCs on the network or do a "ipconfig /release" then "ipconfig /renew" on each.  Do not set DNS servers in Windows.  Windows will pickup the servers from the router.  OR will pickup the ip address of the router if "DNS Relay" is checked. 

For now, leave DNS relay unchecked and reboot all PCs after setting DNS Servers in the router.

I did this, BTW, and with Comcast and an SB5100, have no problems with 2.02NA (DNS Relay disabled).

I might have no solution to your problem, but I had very similar problems with 2.00EU (HW: B1) although the connections stayed up a bit longer. But with 2.01EU (the latest fw for European models) it did not connect at all! Not even with wired connection to the router.

BTW: At some point, when using 2.00EU, I noticed that Short GI was selected (by default??). I think this means short guard interval which can be used when the radio channel has short delay spread. Anyway, I had a problem that wireless clients did not get IP at all, but not using Short GI solved that problem immediatelly. However, the problem that the connections break anyway after a day or two remained. The story ended that I changed DIR-825 to DIR-655.

Does amazon also have the 15% restocking fee like newegg? it makes it more tempting to wait for the firmware upgrade. 

Some other dir-825 users had some suggestions on another post, I'll definitely update here if I get it to work.

If you call CS at your vendor and explain the product doesn't work as advertised they will often waive the restocking fee.  You need to be clear that you are returning it because its unusable, not because you don't like it.

Offer to point them to the forums.
