I recently updated to 1.12NA from 1.01 and have had nothing but issues with my wireless clients.  Drop every few minutes.  Tech support was no help.  So the next move is to RMA the router, which is crazy because  it worked great before the flash.  Just thought I load it for the new USB software.

Anyways, last night I changed the channel width from 20mhz to auto 20/40mhz on my 5ghz channel and its been up for 15hrs.  Tech support never had me mess with this field.  Is this just dumb luck or has that worked for anyone else?

Never mind my previous post.  Looks like its back to the same business of constantly dropping my connections.

Well, after applying the suggested firmware patch, it solved the problem..for awhile. Now it's back with a vengence and I cannot connect at all. (wired or un-wired). What a lemon....

V2.02NA should have resolved your WAN connection issues.  Hard reset the router configuration then reconfigure again.  Also check to make sure your LAN cables are not the cause of the problem (i.e. poor connection).

I did upgrade to 2.02na, but as i mentioned, only resolved the issue for a short while and now is back. Cables are not an issue.. I was able to hot-swap to my old router (dir-604, and everything works fine. So it's not an OS setting issue, cable modem issue, and not a settings issue, since i didn't do anything lately, (except to port forward for a game i recently bought).
Any other suggestions?
How any Co. could put out a product like this with a clear conscious on such a significant issue is beyond me ...

I was having WAN (i.e. internet) connection problems with the DIR-825 with firmware 2.00NA.  Every 20 or 30 minutes the connection would drop and the router would need re-boot.

I upgraded the firmware to 2.02NA and then experienced the same problem others have reported.  I could not establish a WAN connection at all.  It was actually a partial WAN connection because I could ping the router from an external address and get a reply, but I could not establish a connection out to the internet from behind the router.

I did fix it though!

All I did was re-apply the 2.02NA firmware upgrade.

After that it seemed to work fine and I haven't dropped the WAN connection at all.

I hope this works for anyone else having a problem!

Well Guys,

Unfortunately, I'm joining this group for the same reason -- my brand new DIR-825 router does NOT connect to the internet.  Here is my story:

yesterday, my 5 year old Linksys DSL router "died".  I have Earthlink so when I contacted them, they had me connect my DSL cable directly to the PC via PPOE.

I quickly went on the internet to do some comparison shopping.  It came down to Linksys WTN400 and the DLink DIR-825.  I found a forum where everyone was championing the Dlink.  Plus, my good bud here in town had a DLink and said "you can't go wrong".

So I drove down to MicroCenter today and purchased the Dlink 825.  I started at noon and still, at 10:30pm, I CANNOT STAY CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found the new firmware version and have uploaded it. I'm at the current version -- 2.02NA.  However, like most of you -- I cannt stay connected for more than 3 or 4 minutes and my "globe" icon on my router goes orange and my connection states "DISCONNECTED".

I have contacted DLink's Help Desk and spent 30 minutes with the nice lady helping me out.  To no avail.  We tried PPOE and DHCP but still can't connect.  She suggested I contact Earthlink.  I called them tonight and they said I should connect via PPOE and gave me their Primary and Seconday DNS server.  Rebooted everything -- still can't connect.

So I have turned off the 825 router and have connected my cable from DSL modem to my PC and created the PPOE link through IE.  Ta-da.  Back on the net.

Sadly, after all the cool reviews of this router, I'm going to take it back to Microcenter and exchange it for the Linksys.  I don't know what else to do!!!

Thanks for letting me vent!

After upgrading my router to 1.12NA it also drops my wireless clients.  I've noticed its directly related to a computer being directly connected to one of the lan ports though.  If I have no computer directly connected my wireless clients are stable, however if a lan computer is connected it restarts the wireless channels then deauthenticates the clients.  This happens repeatedly until I disconnect the lan computer.  I do have a DVR and TV connected via LAN that don't seem to cause any problems.

I've been able to replicate this problem with completely separate computers and router as they just sent me an RMA replace with 1.12NA loaded.  I was hoping they would send one with 1.01.

Has anyone else experienced the same issues or been able to resolve them?

DIR-825 not connecting to the Internet
« Reply #24 on: September 18, 2009, 02:53:55 AM »

Here are a couple of things to try for the "does not connect to the internet" problem some people are having.  I was having the same or very similar problem.  During several hours of trying all sorts of things the best I got was a few times when I'd get a connection for a few seconds.  Mostly I just could not connect to the Internet at all.  I just made 2 changes and now it appears to be working ok.  The changes were:

1. Under Setup, Network settings I gave the router a Local Domain Name
2. Under Advanced, Advanced Network I changed the WAN Port Speed from Auto 10/100/1000Mbps to 10Mbps (I have a Surfboard SB3100 cable modem and use Comcast)

Of the 2 it looks like the port speed setting is the one that made the difference. I haven't been up and running long enough to be sure my problem is completely fixed but it is looking promising.  If you can't get your DIR-825 to connect these changes are worth a shot.

You bring up a very good point c6vette.  I can attest to the WAN Port speed being an issue, not just on this router, but many others as well.  And not only from a hardware standpoint but as a setup error on the operators fault (known or unknown).

I have worked on several people's routers with no internet connectivity and the problem has been the WAN port speed being set incorrectly.  Most modems operate at 100Mbps...if the router is set at 1000Mbps you will not connect at all.  If the router is set at 10Mbps, most of the time it will connect but there are a few routers (and a few 100Mbps modems) out there that will not connect (or talk to each other) at 10Mbps.

"Auto 10/100/1000Mbps" has always been the preferred setting.  But on rare occasion some routers don't work correctly in this configuration.  If Auto does not work, the best thing to do is find out at what speed the modem ethernet port works and set the router WAN Port Speed accordingly.  I only know of one modem that works at 1000Mbps and that is the new Motorola 6120 cable modem...all else is more than likely 100Mbps.  I don't know of any DSL modems that work at 1000Mbps.

I too bought this router on the great reviews and recommendations I read. Guess you can't trust anyone these days.... I too am losing wireless connectivity frequently.

Upgraded firmware, current: Hardware Version: B1 Firmware Version: 2.02NA

As recommended here, tried the WAN downgrade to 10mbps.  Seemed to help, but still dropping.  Was up for a few hours at a time on the old firmware, but dropped too so I upgraded.

Before the firmware update (with only one drop) I was within a few hours of posting a great review for this thing on a number of review sites to which I contribute.  That won't happen now.  I may post some negative reviews if a new fix isn't issued soon.  This is a business router.  I need it stable.

Any other suggestions?
-Local domain: check
-WAN speed downgrade: check

Sounds like that might be the solution.  I'll give it a few days.  Anyone know if D-link people actually read this thing?  It's a 'beta' forum (funny for 2009), but I hope so!

Sometimes going with a different vendor can help.  Between router/adapter combination issues, firmware, drivers and wireless interference, some vendor/model combinations are just "bad mojo".

Personally, I was having trouble with a Linksys WRT160N, returned it for DIR-825, and my issues were completely solved.  I don't dispute that other folks "get different mileage", though...

I had a similar problem last year when I purchased the 825 unit on losing connectivity but I found out it wasn't with the router but was the USB adapter I was using.  I went to the adapter's manufacturer web site and downloaded the latest software update which corrected the connection problem.  Anyone having this problem might want to do the same.
