no internet connection with Linksys
« on: September 21, 2009, 03:53:49 PM »

Hi, everyone! Just bought the DAP-1522. While I tried to connect it with Linksys WRT160N (either auto or manually), LAN had no problem. The internet connections was only good for about 30 senconds (extremly fast, can reach 10mbps), then lost it. The status shows that lan is still contacted. I had to eihter reset the router or reset DAP-1522 (not back to factory setting) to get re-connected. The 30 seconds later, samething happened. Any idea? (DAP-1522 setting in Bridge Mode, IP: 192.168.1.101, Gateway 192.168.1.1 (router's IP)).  Thanks!!!

Here is the update: Even I gave the static IP to 1522 (say 192.168.1.2), the 1522 still can not be found under linksys IP client table, even I can get into linksys set up from 1522 and get on the internet for only 30 seconds.

Nerver mind. You are not suppposed to see the 1522 ip under DHCP client table if you set it a static IP. But now I set 1522 to DHCP. Linksys can see it but the computers at both end can not ping each other.

I also have the Linksys WRT160N (fw 2.0.03) with the DAP-1522 (fw 1.21) acting as a bridge for my PS3 and my Samsung TV.  They both seem to be connecting at random times and only for brief periods.  I was happy about 10 minutes ago but now I cannot even remotely manage the DAP-1522 using its previously working IP address.  I've noticed that powering it on and off and rebooting are also hit and miss regarding connection.  Sometimes my WPS button on my DAP-1522 works and sometimes it doesn't, but when I do get a light and the WRT160N actually connects, I do then have a reliable connection, albeit temporary.  Once I lose my connection, I never seem to get it back unless I cycle the power, use WPS, or reboot--again, these are hit and miss.  I have also tried playing with the Static vs DHCP and various other settings on both my router and the bridge to no avail.

You are right, after setting DAP-1522 to DHCP it shows up in the table for me as well.

About our problems though, it seems like others who even use D-Link routers are having similar issues.  This is very disappointing as I was hoping to improve my media streaming with the PS3 but it's no fun to have movies and games cut out in the middle of the action.  I hope a firmware fix can resolve these seemingly random disconnects.

I'm wondering if Access Point users are having the same issues...

I am not alone.... :o. You are luckier than me. When I connect the 1522 to my Yamaha RX-V3800 for internet radio, I only can get 15 seconds of music. I guess I have to retune it to the store.

I have a DAP-1522 that has had no problems connecting to a DGL-4500 and NETGEAR WNDR3700.

You may have a bad unit.

Yeah.  I'm thinking I should return this while the RMA option is still available since there doesn't seem to be any obvious fix.

I do not think it is a bad unit. Because I got two 1522s, they have same problem.

That's not good if both DAP-1522 units don't want to connect.  With that news I will hold onto this for another 2 or so weeks since the chance of both units being bad is pretty slim.  This may mean there is a compatibility issue.  I have tried dropping the security of the router to WPA but I am still getting an intermittent connection.  I don't know what I can do at this point to get things working.

have you tried to downgrade the access point to just use b/g-mode ? My guess is it will work. The problem seems to be persistent, but only when trying to use n-mode (no metter if it is mixed or nor)

Well. I don't think I can use it as AP since I am attaching the AV receiver to it. But I will try to change the router setting later on today. BornOnFriday, have you tried this method? Thanks!

So far the modes I have tried are Bridge and Auto (which went to Bridge).  I believe I did switch it to G-only but I can't remember if it was able to maintain a connection.  Later I will try the G-only setting in Bridge mode (will need to set this in the WRT160N) and I will also see if this thing works as an access point in N & G.  To be honest, I won't be happy with the 1522 unless I can get an N connection with my PS3 wired to it since that was the driving force behind me purchasing it--the PS3 has G built.

I'll stay in touch jjyang.

Thus far, the DAP-1522 is working in Wireless G with the same configuration--Note:  it did revert to a Static IP setup after the WPS.  I have my PS3 and Samsung TV connected with the 1522 in Bridge mode.  I have been able to frequently access the web management utility, I've played two separate PS3 games online, and I was able to run 3 consecutive Internet Connection Tests (via the PS3) without any hiccups--none of this has been possible using it as a Wireless N Bridge.

For those of you with PS3s who would like to see some Wireless G performance numbers.  I have run 3 of the PS3s built-in connection tests using the PS3s Wireless G followed by the DAP-1522 in G for a total of 6 tests--alternated between the two.  Averaged results below:

PS3 Built-in Wireless G
Download Speed - 10.1 Mbps
Upload Speed - 880.86 Kbps

PS3 Wired to DAP-1522 in Wireless G

Download Speed - 10.1 Mbps
Upload Speed - 893.70 Kbps

These numbers show that the Wireless G mode is on par with the PS3.  My DAP-1522 is on the stand and sitting on top of the PS3.  They are both upstairs and the WRT160N is downstairs set to G-only--there is about 25ft and a floor between them.  Wooh... there's my good deed for the day.

Back to our troubleshooting.  So far...

The DAP-1522 connected to WRT160N in N mode is:  NO GOOD.
The DAP-1522 connected to WRT160N in G mode is:  GOOD.

Need to try:  1522 as Access Point in N & G mode...

jjyang, have you tried playing with it at all today?

Another quirk, after I updated to the 1.21 firmware a few days ago I've noticed that I can't see the "Wireless Network Settings" after clicking "Setup" (top nav bar) and then "Wireless" (left nav bar).  This is the screen that I believe showed the Wireless Mode, Channel, Encryption, etc. Right now I've been using WPS which does seem to kick in after a few annoying tries.

Thanks very much for all the efforts. I am still at work so I will try it later. I do not have PS3 but I have Yamaha home theatre receiver RX-V3800 with network interface. It can play internet radio and browse PCs. I will report the result. At least one of us is happier than before. Hope either Dlink or Linksys can fix the N problem with their next firmware upgrade (which one should be blamed, Dlink or Linksys?).

Now I have been listening to the internet radio for about 30 minutes without any problem. It appears that the Linksys can only be set to G. Since I do not play PS3 and not running a great distance so G is OK for me. I am not 100% satisfied (I paid for N) but at least we solve the problem at the moment. I am still thinking to get Linksys N bridge instead. Many thanks to thorvald, anon and BornOnFriday. Let's hope either of these companies can solve this issue soon.
