My router decided to cake on itself over the weekend and I have been unable to log back into the router.

I've tried pressing and holding the reset button for 10 seconds as the manual says. I've tried turning the power off and I still cannot see to log in. The login form must be broken. When I press the login button it resets anything in the password field and that's it. I've tried loggin in with the default password as well and that doesn't work.

Since I'm using beta firmware I cannot RMA the router. I really need to be able to get in and access the router settings so I can use non-beta firmware.

Any ideas at all on how to gain access to the router's administration pages?

Also, I'm using Rev_A3 with latest beta firmware.

i ended up going back down to 1.11 and my router has not rebooted or lost connection now for 3 days.  ping is still only good about 80% of the time though.

I updated to the Beta software after having constant connection problems.  Worked great for about an hour and suddenly the router just died.  Only the power light turns on.  It is not recognizing the WAN port at all, even after resetting the internet connection.  The router is not responding to anything. Can I reload firmware back to factory somehow? What are my options now?

Can you ping the routers IP? I wouldn't blame the firmware. My guess is that the unit was failling anyway. How about the reset button?

What do I do with the reset button?
I've tried holding it for 30 seconds while plugged in, and while unplugged.
I tried unplugging it while holding the reset button.
Is there another combination to try?

Just press the reset button in on th eback untill the LAN lights go off. It should be defualted then. Try to access the UI, if it fails the unit may need to be replaced.

Re: ACCESS Control
« Reply #51 on: February 29, 2008, 08:15:15 AM »

Hi,

Has anybody tried to use an Access Control Policy with this Beta ?  The FW 1.11 seems to be broken for me and some others that have posted in the forum.  I am wondering if the beta 1.11 has the same problems.

I can not Create, Delete or Edit Access Control Policies.  If I do try to Edit one of my two, it ended up saying I have no names in the Other Policy name....then if I try to edit my other Policy, it cycles thru and ends up saying the first policy has no name.... Go Figger....

Anybody using the beta ??

Thanks !!

After getting my performance issues resolved, I re-upgrade to the 11.1_MSBeta version.  After the upgrade, my performance problems came back despite the fact that WMM-Enable was selected.  Restoring my config file saved with 11.1 before the upgrade resolved the issue.  Haven't had time to do any more analysis yet.

Just updated to the 1.11MSBeta, on A2 version router, and not a problem with the transfer from 1.11 to beta, did not even have to restore.  :)

Also it now seems to log me out of the configuration if it needs to reboot, does a major change and has to save, if I do a reset, or just when it  times-out on configuration. But since it is protected by biometrics, it is not a big deal.

Finally also figured out why I could not get rid of a schedule rule, since it was being used for downloading the log, it would not allow me to get rid of the schedule.  ;D

No noticable change in speed yet, but have not done all my testing yet. :o

However, I wish in one of the future updates, you could put the "help" or "more" page in a new tab, so i could go back and forth between tabs, to read and go through the information while doing the configuration changes, instead of having to go backward and forward on the same tab while doing it. Should be no biggie, just a change in routine to a popup.  :'(

I wanted to start a thread for all the DIR-655 users that are running the aforementioned "beta" code.

Please try to keep the feed back constructive and if possible, positive.
We will do our best to answer any questions you have in a timely and orderly manner.

Happy Surfing

loaded beta in attempt to improve wireless transfer speed

model: 655 Rev_A3

saved config file prior upgrading... upgrade from version 1.11 to 1.11beta
at first all appeared normal and seemed like no need to reload config file... however upon trying to do a wireless file transfer experienced file transfer freezing up short way into the transfer... reloaded config file ... no effect... reset router to default and manuallly loaded settings seemed to correct freezing issue... however files transferred slower then with 1.11 release... after a few hours went back to 1.11...

conclusion:

for my A3 hw unit beta performed worse both in terms of wireless transfer speed and signal strength.... however judging from survey results it appears beta works  better if you have a 655 rev_A2 hw units... i purchased this unit based on the great review given on small net builders however so far this unit has been a big disappointmnet for me... this $130 router works well as an internet router but as far as wireless networking goes it performs on par if not slightly less (less signal strength) with a much lesser known brand n-router that i purchased on sale for $29.

Backdoctor52, you can open the help link in a new tab (I am assuming your are using IE 7) by either clicking with the middle wheel button, hold the CTRL key while clicking with left button, or right click the link and select open in new tab.

Worked well for me. Was experiencing WAN disconnections when router was heavily loaded, uploaded the beta f/w and tested the same conditions that caused a disconnect the night before and all was good.
Strange thing about the H/W version of my router.... The box indicates 1A, where the HTML interface indicates 1A/2A and my lights are all green. Is mine a hybrid or does it indicate a H/W version of 1A that through F/W has been upgraded to the equivalent of a 2A box?

I'm pretty sure that the green lights mean that is A1 hardware.  I remember some talk a while back about the A1/A2 thing and I'm pretty sure it was just a bug in the display on the page.  The real determining factor were the lights.

How is it with the need to reboot when opening ports in the firewall (virtual server + portforward)?
In the firmware 1.04 I think, it was possible to open ports and to save the settings without a need of an router-reboot. In all later firmware versions, this feature has been removed. Now you always have to reboot the router when changing virtual-server & portforwarding settings.  :(

By the way, uploading old settings does still not work. Get always the following message:

Do you still have dhcp sessions hanging. Go into Setup -> Network Settings ->Scroll to the bottom where it says Number of Dynamic DHCP Clients Under that heading you can terminate (they use another word then terminate) Once you terminate any hangind dhcp seesions you should be able to reload your settings.
