Bought 5 DWA 552 card for DIR 655 Vista x64 LOCKUPS(RESOLVED)
« on: January 05, 2008, 03:09:28 PM »

After all the cash I just dropped on 5 of these pci cards, and the router!!!!!!

In Vista x64 (3 Quad Cores with 4GB memory, and 2 Dual Cores with 4GB memory) these cards are the official causes of all my lockups

After removing memory sticks, every other component all 5 machines have been running 3dmark06 for 4 days straight without a single lockup however this is only without the wireless cards.  The second I put one in start vista x64 and open IE within 5 minutes hard lock.

Come on wtf before I get a refund on all my dlink equipment there must be a fix

Hi TechAnalyst,

Do you have Windows Vista x64 Service Pack 1 installed?

The downloaded drivers for Vista x64, states that it is the same drivers found in the Vista x64 Service Pack 1.

7.3.1.42 - Driver for Vista 64. Please note that this is the same driver available on the Windows Vista x64 Service pack 1.

Release Date of 12/17/2007.

Are you running Service Pack 1 for Vista?

No service pack 1 here at all.  Just all the updates, tried without updates etc.  This is how I came along to the wireless card.

Tried the current driver off the update site, tried Dlinks newest driver and also nearly every atheros driver thats listed on laptopvideo2go and atheros.cz

Im just pinging yas to make a driver that doesnt lock up the system.  I setup all these machines, and all this equipment for convience.  Now I had to go out and BUY over 3000 feet of Cat 6 cabling thats running over stairs, under doorways etc to make it all work.  My ethernets work awesome but I want wireless.  I stopped using linksys equipment for this reason (Every router and wireless card i had from them lost connections caused issues).  Dlink runs great in vista 32 bit but I have 4gb memory in all the machines and without the wireless card everything EVERYTHING runs Perfect. Machines have been on memtest for about 16 hours no lockups

Please provide mpre information about the machines the cards are in. Are they custom machines? Did you build them yourself?

Alright....................No stupid answers please I want to hear from the Dlink guys because for one in Windows XP everything was perfect in Vista 32-bit everything is perfect no issues systems never ever locked up.  So this isnt going to be an os issue or something I did.  And saying that IE doesnt stay in memory before of a driver or a peice of hardware?

ANYWAYS

One machine is a dell XPS 720,E6850, Dell Motherboard 680i, 2 880GTX, 4GB memory, 1 500GB hard drive, TV Tuner, XFI Sound Card etc.  Again ive removed ALL THE MEMORY, IVE REMOVED the cards down to one video and just wireless ive done all that i DONT USE the built in wireless software I just install the driver, 1 kilo watt power supply

4 other machine are home built
q6600, 4gb memory, 3 500gb hard drives, 2x8800GTs, xfi sound cards all 750 watt coolermaster power supplies, and all have asus striker boards

Now I dont want to hear RE SEAT memory done, left only one stick in
Video cards removed down to 1 per machine same issue
disconnected hard drives

Tried 3 dlink drivers, tried 5 atheros drivers

Under windows xp your wireless card is FLAWLESS, under vista 32 bit FLAWLESS under vista x64 hard locks

These machines have now been up 5 straight days (removed all the wireless cards) all hooked in gigabit ethernet no locks, no restarts notta as long as those wireless cards arent installed no problems

Hi TechAnalyst,

Can you install Windows Vista Service Pack 1, to see if the computer still locks up?

"- Driver for Vista 64. Please note that this is the same driver available on the Windows Vista x64 Service pack 1."

The driver you have, may lock up under plain Windows Vista x64.

See what happens with Vista Service Pack 1 installed.

Can it hurt any?

I think you have convinced them (well you convinced me) but you must understand that it could be a conflict or an OS problem.  You sound very agitated.

Since I use Vista x64 on a machine I would love to see your problem fixed but there are so many variables saying it is just the card or the driver is not much to go on.

I think they are trying to rule things out.  You did that already, albeit with what looks like screaming.  I think you should answer their questions and hope that they fix it.

Or I guess you can return the cards.

Ok I hate to sound like an ass*ole but "LOGICAL THOUGHTS" only please.  Im not 11 I can read every recommendation found in these and other forums.

THE VIDEO CARDS DO NOT MATTER  Motherboards are ASUS STRIKER 680is.  I just put an XFX 780i in another machine and BOOM locked with the wirelss card without the wireless card roughly a week straight up running benchmarks.

So stop with the ITS THE VIDEO CARD or LOGICAL MOTHERBOARD.  All the video cards are SLI configurations running 8800GTXs and 8800GT video cards.

I even picked up an ATI Video card installed on the machines and the second I add the wireless cards BOOM hard lock.

So stop saying OH LOOK AT YOUR HARDWARE hardware is perfect without the wireless cards the systems run PERFECT with Vista 32-bit no locks, no bsods nothing so STOP with this horse S*IT and look at the facts.  Its not the hardwares fault its the DRIVERS the drivers are junk Dlink just has to make a good driver period.

OH btw I picked up a linksys card thats suppose to run ont he same chipset and it works without lockups but I HATE linksys with the passion, and ive already purchased all these dlink DWA-552 cards.  I have went back and exchanged them for the same model and YAM same lockups

People need to stop saying stupid things.

I mean is Dlink look at this at all do they even care?

ALSO on hardware notes

Where I work we have a lab with roughly 70 machines all different.  In 20 installs (fresh installs with DWA-552) hard locks on every single one.

Each machine is totally different running x38 motherboards, older nforce/intel chipsets.

This tells me "driver" I came on here to say "you have a driver issue and it needs to be fixed"

Im a patient person if you say HEY we will have a stable working driver in THREE MONTHS Ill say AWESOME but I get nothing but "Check hardware" well 11 dell machines, 3 hps, 7 home growns later I must say "WELL when you SELL the DWA-552 PUT ON THE BOX WORKS ON THE FOLLOWING MOTHERBOARD, CPU, VIDEO CARD, SOUND CARD".

Whoever deals with the drivers call them, email them and say dude or whatever language they speak probably russian these days.

Also:

Tried SP1 build 744 recently didnt fix the problem BUT i can say took a little longer to hard lock two systems.

So tis not fixed in SP1.  I dont mind trying what people ask but leave hardware out of it.  As I said before in the 32-Bit vista works flawless but I dont want to use 32-bit I want to use 64-bit to take advantage of the 4 GB memory available on my machine.

Sorry to ask this because you said don't ask about hardware but could it be a bad card?

Have you been trying the same card in all the systems?  Or different cards?

Yeap even replaced the 5 cards with new ones from the store.  Tried one at a time in the system till it locked up.

Im havin no luck, the woman is mad that ive run, taped stamped pulled trim to hide cables (Total close to 4000 feet)

So yeah not a good day for me.

When is the next expected FULLY QA'd drivers coming out

Hi TechAnalyst,

You keep saying that the cards are bad. Question: Just for the heck of it, have you tried the cards on the same computer, but under a different operating system with different drivers?

I believe that the cards are good, the Drivers for the operating system that you are using them in, are poorly written and thus causing the problems you are experiencing.

I gather that some of your motherboards have AMD Processors and some have Intel 64-bit processors with Windows Vista 64-Bit versions installed?

Have you called D-Link Support by Telephone and explained the situation to them very slowly, that you are using the Cards in a business environment?
