new xbox 360 N adapter issue
« on: January 29, 2010, 09:30:27 AM »

I recently bought the new wireless N adapter by microsoft for the 360 and I am suffering random disconnects. At first I thought it might be the adapter but I found a post on the Xbox forums where someone else with the same router is having the same issue.

I never had a problem with the G adapter, and nothing else has changed in my network. I have an A2 router with f/w 1.32 NA. The router itself is stable and I am not having anyother issues with the network outside of the xbox 360.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Could be an incompatible issue?

Cant really say since I dont own a N wireless adapter?

As a side note why would you game over wireless? I think its more flaky IMO stick to hard wire connection if you can.

I know it's convenient

Thanks for the response.

I did some more poking around and found a review on amazon and new egg that both described random disconnects on the xbox 360 when using this router and the new Xbox wireless N adapter.

I went ahead and upgraded to the 1.33 f/w and am crossing my fingers that this corrects my problem, but any insight would still be appreciated.

I have the new N adapter and a 655 with the latest official firmware.  Works peachy here.  Streams HD video like a champ.

I am still having connection issues even with the new firmware.

Tonight I tried steaming a video from my PC and I kept getting an error on the Xbox that the connection to my PC had been lost. When I popped in the old G adapter it started working as expected.

Is anyone else having similar issues??

I have never had any problems with this router before. As a matter of fact it has been the most stable wirelss router I have ever used.

The only other thing I can think to do is try to exchange the N adapter for a new one...maybe it is defective.

I know the original 11g and now the 11n Xbox adapters do not work with the newest 825 firmware and many people are pissed so it is likely a bug that will not be fixed anytime soon.  You should consider adding a new 11n access point to your network and disabling the 11n on the 655.

Good Idea. I will save that one for later if I can't figure this out.

So I went ahead and exchanged the N adapter for a new one. The problem of random disconnects is still happening.

There is definitely a conflict of some kind between the Xbox 360 N adapter and the DIR-655, even with the newest firmware.

This is very dissappointing for me since I have had this router for almost 2 years and never had an issue until now. I am sure Microsoft and D-Link are just going to point fingers at each other and insist the problem is not on their end.

Hi,

I run a TrendNet wireless gaming adapter for my main Xbox360...its their version 1.0 and altho it shows in the 655 status as running .11N, it will only run at .11G speeds.  Very stable tho, just not at .11N speeds.

They sell a newer model now, and maybe that has better .11N compatibility ??

I am very happy with my adapter, altho in reality, its more like a self-contained wireless bridge as you can technically run it into a switch to pass signal to more than just a single Xbox or pc....or so the little manual says.  It, the adapter, has its own LAN IP, but the XBox uses its own LAN IP, not the adapter's IP.

I got mine from Newegg....was on sale when I got it....

thanks for the tip Sammy.

I am considering getting a thrid party adapter now.

I am on the phone with Xbox customer support right now and they are surprised I am having issues since D-link is one of their top recommended brands.

They have me on hold now trying to see if there is something they can do.

Yes, the Dlink DAP-1522, WET610N are good third party 11n wireless ethernet bridge adapters.

Hi,

I had to do no such thing with my adapter.

Did that microsoft adapter have you set it up with encryption and such before you attach it to the 360 ?
