Do you have another wireless PC to verify if it is a router or PC problem? If the routers wireless section is defective or turned off you will never get a connection. If a second PC cannot connect then the router is defective or not setup correctly. At this point I would reset it to factory defaults and leave it that way until you can determine if it is actually working correctly. Did you check the status LEDs on the front of the router for proper indications/status. What does the status page of the router say as far as the wireless goes?

One other thing can keep the wireless connecting is if MAC filtering is on and the Wireless adapters MAC is not on the list.

Check the encryption setting on the router. If you are using WPA or WPA2 try AES not TKIP. TKIP seems to cause a lot of issues.

Just an update.  I purchased a Netgear WN111v2 adapter and tried that and that also didn't work.  So I decided to wipe everything out, reinstall Windows 7 and guess what?  It still won't work!!!  I hooked the old router back up, used the new adapter and voila it works!!!  So it must be either a defective router or its not compatible with Windows 7.  Now the question is when I return this do I get the same one and try again or do a try a different model router or differnet brand all together???  Thoughts anyone?  You guys rock for all your effort in trying to help me!!

The OS has nothing to do with the router.

I would exchange the router at your retailer or contact D-Link for a RMA.

Have you tried support yet?

They may know something we do not.

Return the router and exchange it - do not bother with Dlink tech support because it is a waste of time unless you have to RMA the 655.  Always remember that you can use your old Netgear as a Wireless Access Point in conjunction with another gateway router.

Get a different router altogether if you can return it for a full refund.  If you can afford it, buy a Netgear WNDR3700 or an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station off craigslist.  The WNDR3700 is the type of router that you need only buy once every 5 years and has great wireless performance and stability, but it is Atheros based so it won't support DD-WRT, but perhaps OpenWRT soon.

If you have money and live in a populated area like and apartment, definitely get something with 5Ghz 11n.

Ok update time!!!  I exchanged it for the same router, brought it home, crossed my fingers and....it works!!!  Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!  So it was a faulty router all along.  But I am still havin one problem.  I have it set to run in mixed mode n and g but the netgear WN111v2 smart wizard is saying I am only broadcasting in G and at 54Mbps.  I tried to do it at N only just to see what it would do and it wouldn't connect in that mode

There is a sticky in this forum for that. Check your settings as advised and if you still can't get it to work post back. http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=616.0

Did as the link suggested and I am connected at 270Mbps!!!  The only other issue I am having is my LG BD390 bluray player only has 2 bars for a signal but I gues that is an issue with the player and not the router.  I want to thank EVERYONE for all their help and suggestions it is very much appreciated!!!

Try changing the channel width from 20/40Auto to 40 and see if you get then get 300Mbps. You won't really get 300 anyway thats just the link speed not your true though put.
