No refund, it took too long for me to realise it was not going to be fixed I guess.  :-\

But I have a wireless system for sale real cheap...   :D

Hi, I've recently bought the DWA-552, DWL-655 combo. I've found I have the same problem as most of you do. My sound after the installation would have popping and cracking noises at pretty standard intervals. I've nailed it down to the setting "Scan Valid Interval" Which basically means that within the set amount of seconds the device will look for new connections or see if the current connection is still there. Using DPC latency Checker, i was able to reproduce an interruption at exactly 20 seconds when Scan Valid Interval was set at 20.

This issue obviously is not isolated to this instance, as it seems there are other random activities which will cause interruptions (usually relating to scanning for new connections). However, because Scan Valid Interval happens at least once every 2 minutes (it will not let you set beyond 120 seconds) it becomes quite annoying.

I've tried different drivers, but to no avail until i stumbled upon modified Atheros drivers which allows you to edit ALL hidden settings...it can be found here:
http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/15297-atheros-modded-driver-for-windws-7-vista-and-winxp/

I've installed the v8.0.0.171 and turned BackgroundScan On/Off to OFF. It was considerably much better than previous drivers. No longer does the adapter scan for new connections. I rarely get interruptions if at all. And when I do a refresh in Network and Sharing Center in Windows for new connections the interruption is not as great as previous drivers.

I hope this helps other people.

Hello, we've opened another link on the forum talking to another issue with this driver, but I think they are related.  Oddly enough, when I use my wireless card dwa-552 on an unsecured router it works fine no problems, when I use wpa2, it dies after a few moments and dies to the point where it actually loses the ability to detect ANY networks.. I'm using the latest windows 7 driver and have a P55 motherboard, 8gb of RAM and a core i7 2.8.

Hi war59312,

Question: Is your operating system Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7? Also what Anti-Virus package is installed?

In Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 with Internet Explorer 8 and McAfee Total Protection installed, I can't watch even News Clips because of a McSvHost.Exe problem, which has got nothing to do with D-Link. This is my Wireless Computer with DWA-522 Installed with Drivers 1.50.

I have the problem with WinXP SP3, Vista SP2, and Win7.

It's the damn driver. No anti-virus. We know it's the driver because of the timeout value.

Hi War,

In Windows X Home Edition Service Pack 3, the Scan Valid Interval is set at 30 with no problems using 1.50 D-Link Drivers. I have Anti-Virus installed on my computers and when McSvHost.exe using the CPU, I have Video Playback issues. Without it running, I have no issues.

Using dpclat, I see major driver issues under Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3.

In Windows 7 Ultimate 32-Bit Release Candidate Version, using dpclat, no issues.

I have the card installed in my son's ASUS MB PC w/built in sound running XP sp3 and it caused all kinds of sound problems.
I went to Dlink's site and downloaded the latest driver which fixed all the problems.

Advise getting latest driver and you will love the speed you get. I have no connection problems or any other issues at all......excellent device.

well here we go... I just purchased the dwa-552 a few weeks ago, and couldn't for the life of me figure out why my audio all of a sudden started cutting out on me all the time.  Then... viola, I stumbled upon this forum.

I am currently running: Windows XP Media Center Edition SP2 on an HP a1350n with an AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual core processor 4200+ 2.19Ghz / 4 gigs of ram.

I have downloaded the most up to date driver that i could find on the website. I even tried calling tech support... I shouldn't have wasted my time.  I am using DPC LatencyChecker 1.2.0 and every 60 seconds, like clockwork, i get huge spikes up to about 6000.  This DPC spike is causing my audio to distort and cut out.  Other than that, this adapter works great, good connectivity and great speed.  This problem however is very annoying.  Looking back through this forum, I saw a few peeps working on a fix for it... any word on this?  Tech support said that they were aware of this issue, and were working on it.  The tech rep insisted that I try installing the adapter in another computer to see if it has the same effect.  She then instructed me that if I did, that I just return the adapter to the store I purchased it at.  You would think that if you pay upwards of 80 bux for something that it should work.  Wishful thinking I guess.

Alright, I'm done ranting...So yeah, has anyone had any luck with this problem

You are fortunate that you are still in a refund window.  Return this card ASAP!

Um, no!! Flashing your router with DD-WRT does not fix this problem.

Especially when you can not run DD-WRT on your router like DIR-655.

After all you are missing with the router and not this card. This card is the problem, not whatever router your using. Has nothing to do with router!!

Running the latest driver makes no difference either.

As stated above the problem is with the driver, specifically the "Scan Valid Interval".

This card incorrectly scans for access points causing massive "DPC Latency" which result in high CPU usage for a second or two which causes real time audio and video to skip.
