DNS-320 & Samsung UE40ES6300 not showing videos
« on: December 12, 2012, 10:55:57 AM »

Hi there.
Been looking on these forums all day, and others too. Have found that a couple of people say their Samsung Smart TV works fine with DNS-320.

I cannot get mine to work at all. All I get when I go onto Allshare is 'VIDEO', 'MUSIC', 'PHOTO' or something similar (not at the TV right now). At my wits-end with this now!!! Tried (I think) everything!!

It doesn't show my files. I have MKV, AVI, MP4.

Nothing!! It shows the NAS but not files.

PLEASE does anyone have any info? Getting really angry now as I've tried everything. The TV supports all those formats.

I called Samsung earlier as it showed my video file, but wouldn't let me play it. They advised to upgrade software, which I did. Now it won't show the files. Please help!!

Thank you :)

As a side note. It works absolutely fine with my iPhone 4 and my Win7 laptop. Just not the TV? :/

Copy the same set of files onto a thumbdrive, connect to Samsung TV and see if can play.

Hi, yes have tried that. All files play on usb drive fine. The TV sees the NAS, but just doesn't think there's anything on it   >:(

That seems to be a combination of Samsung's and D-Link's supported media formats for DLNA.
Out of those listed by Samsung, D-Link's implementation, using now defunct Firefly Media Server, seems to support only .avi (and perhaps MPEG2 PS ie .mpg):

The Firefly just ignores media, it doesn't understand. So it will not even be advertised to the renderer.
You may try renaming file to avi and rescanning media folder (has been reported as working solution in this forum).
Alternatively, you might want to try some other media server.
Twonky being one of the more tried and tested ones.
Also c|net's Samsung forum has something on this topic:

Hello

It's possible

The only think you have to do is activate UPnP Av Server the correct volume!

And thats all.

I wish it was so simple. I can assure you that I have enabled the UPnP media server on the correct volume (I only have 1!!), but the D-Link will not display my mp4 movie files to the Sony TV!
As I said, it seems to ignore all media files it doesn't understand or like.

Hi Maffew.

I had this problem this time last year. Neither Samsung or D-Link could offer any kind of solution or suggestion as to the root of the problem (other than "update the firmware... Still not working? Oh well we don't support connection to other devices"! )

Eventually, instead of tearing my hair out, I submitted to the advice of other people n here and installed fun_plug, which enabled me to install Twonky on my DNS320.

It will cost you a few quid, and you have to follow the instructions to the letter, but it's not that difficult to do. but now it works really well with al the devices in my house, including my Samsung TV's.

If you want to give this a go, then follow the instructions on these two links

http://nas-tweaks.net/40/installation-of-the-fonz-funplug-0-5-for-ch3snas-ch3mnas-dns-323-and-many-more/

http://nas-tweaks.net/384/installation-of-twonky-server-7-on-nas-devices/

Good luck, but you shouldn't need that!
Let us know how you get on...

Hello,

I'm really interested if it works now. If so, can you tell me what was the solution?

I have a Samsung TV connected with a CH3SNAS. I have the same problem if I go to Allshare. I do see the NAS but cannot see my files.

I red above that Twonkey server can be the solution. I have some questions about that:

Which version of twonkey server I can use?
Does every version of twonkey needs a license key?
If so, how can I purchase a license key and what will it cost?

Thanks

I had the same problem, I just ended up converting to vob and calling it a day. The media server that is built in kinda sucks. .I am still messing around with it. I would love an updated server that plays more current file formats. I tried twonky and had really no success with my sharp tv. Plus it keeps crashing and i have to reinstall.

Hi

I currently have this issue, it looks to be with the ES series.  I have the ES8000 and it does not pick up the folders on the media server.  It used to until a fw update on the tv, then it just stopped.  I have a C9000 model that picks up the media fine so i can confirm it is not the nas box at fault.   I am hoping a future fw update may correct this.

As a counter measure to this issue i have installed fun_plug and twonky and i can confirm that the ES8000 picks up and plays these fine,  the only issue i have is that the occasional file is not detected by twonky.

Hi

My Samsung C650 works fine with DL-320 and the current firmware. I did three things:

- Enable AV Server @ DNS-320
- Rename all my .mkv files to .mp4
- Add shared folders in DNS-320 upnp settings

Thats was all. I suggest you to find and try a "DNLA Client" in order to be sure your DNS-320 upnp server is working fine.
