While I'm at it, are there docs about the Transmission client anywhere to be found?

I haven't come across any explicit documentation for the Transmission add-on for either DNS-325 or DNS-345.  :-\

Thanks for the note.

Am I correct in my reading that 4TB drives aren't supported until the v1.04 firmware is installed?   If so, any updates about how soon this will be officially released in the US?

4TB HDD support was published before the latest beta FW was released, although there is a fix related to 4TB HDD support in the latest v1.04b05 FW. There is no ETA for a public release.

I have a DNs-325 with 1.04B05 FW

Trying to Format in RAID 1 two Seagate 4TB ST4000VN000

My problem, even if I select RAID 1, it formats the drives in STANDARD.

Is this normal?

Are these new HDDs or were they previously used in the DNS-325 or another device? IF they are not factory-new, did you try removing the existing partitions from the HDDs prior to inserting into the DNS-325?  :-\

Anyone else experience an issue like this?

No there drives where brand new. Removed the static protection from them and inserted them into the slots.

Spoke with the online support from DLINK and even if the are "Compatibility-Tested with the Industry’s Top NAS Solution Providers" and DLINK logo is there. They are NOT officialy Supported by DLINK!!!!

The only two seagate supported 4TB drives are: ST4000DX000 and ST4000NM0033

Did a small test.

Rolleback to 1.03... tried to format in RAID1.
It worked...But only detected 1TB total drive instead of 4TB.
But was able to set the remaining space to JBOD.

Then updated to 1.04b05... RAID volume was no longer working.
Only JBOD volume...

Reformated trying RAID1... No success... still set as STANDARD so I get Volume_1 & Volume_2

If there's no data stored on the DNS-325, you may want to try mounting the HDDs in a Windows PC to remove all the partitions and try again.

Tried that... same thing... Not able to format in RAID... only in Standard.
Its really sad to see that DLINK have so limited supported drives.

A lot of people complain having issues with the units... but most of the time its related to
the Hard Drives compatibility. I inserted the drives into my QNAP drive and they worked A1 in RAID1.

there isn't a way to 'format in RAID' unless you are on a server capable of doing that. I think he meant format the drives on a pc to get them clean then put them back in the 325 and set them up as RAIDx

Correct. Mounting the HDD in a Windows PC to remove existing partitions and reformat should sufficiently cleanse the HDD, wiping any remnants of prior Linux formatting that may be confusing the DNS-325. The HDDs must then be mounted in the DNS-325 and formatted by the DNS-325 to be properly recognized by the unit.

I also suggest the following russian D-Link page ( http://dlink.ua/dns_addons - translation from russian http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ru&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fdlink.ua%2Fdns_addons&sandbox=1 ) that contains all addons for DNS-325, some of them are third-parties addons (so we can use them at our own risks).
I am testing some of them (with firmware 1.04b), such as:
1) telnet. Telnet is useful, but it does not require userid and password, so I consider it a security hole.
2) ssh : such as telnet, but at least it uses the secure ssh protocol, requiring userid and password (password must be created at first login).
3) midnight commander. It should be as old Norton Commander, but I am not able to understand how to use it (should it be used inside web manager or inside telnet/ssh???).
4) transmission : an alternate torrent client, just another world if compared with built-in torrent client.
5) mediatomb : an alternate dlna server, still not complete.
6) twonkymedia server : an alternate dlna server, just another world if compared with built-in dlna server. For me it is a pleasant surprise, I confirm it is wonderful and very useful. It is fully supported by so many TVs (I have Samsung and Panasonic TVs, I have no problem with them).

If you want to test other addons, please let us know your opinions. Thanks.

Hi Joe Public and thanks for this useful link!
I've just bought the dns-325, and tested these addons on the previous firmware, 1.03. I think it's useful to know if the addons works in previous firmwares in order to evaluate their goodness on the beta firmware.
- ssh: accessed through putty, it worked well. I've changed the password at first login. I was able to navigate in the linux file system without problems.
- midnight commander: just typed "mc" while connected through ssh, it worked perfectly.
- townky: great surprise, i love this app. I've already used on another nas, MyBookLive, and i never had problems to stream any video to my samsung tv. Installed, configured, all works perfectly. Version is 7.2.1, very recent.

The great thing is that i didn't have to activate  the fun_plug to install them, simply installed add-ons!

I report another app, present in the us site, that i love: amule. This app works perfectly too, finally i can download files leaving the pc off. If anyone wants help to configure it (it's not simple) can write me.
