reset everything on the router today, followed the update process (except for the Streamboost stuff since that was going for over 60 minutes and wasn't finishing so i gave up on it and just put in a few megs above my service)

Not having the log on issues anymore, that's a major plus. Let us know if you have Media Server enabled or not. I had mine enabled and had log in and router issues. Disabled it and no longer having those issues.  ::)

Speeds seem a little low (I used the same numbers that i had previously with streamboost) but that could just be a cable company issue, will do more speed tests later
One reason why the SB may not be finishing is that the ISP service and quality maybe not good. Mine completed in about 15 minutes for the initial test. The SB test should complete with in a short period of time. If it doesn't might mean something on the ISP side. Give it over night and check it tomorrow if you leave SB and ABE enabled. I noticed that mine was good the next day.

one issue I am having that is quite frustrating, I have had settings in for a virtual server for a VPN server I have set up using my laptop (Laptop is the host of the vpn for my cell phone to connect to remotely) and I am no longer able to connect from my cell phone.  I am 100% sure the settings are the same as I took a picture of the settings page before restoring and updating the firmware.  Could anything have changed firmware wise that would be interfering?  Not sure about this...I'll have to look back thru my emails and see if there is something. I remember I reported a VS issue to D-Link however I can't remember at the moment if it was on the 5500 or the 868L. I'll look in to it. Can you try setting up Port Forward and test using that method. Can you post the picture of your prior settings?

Media Server is enabled....

ISP side I doubt, once i shut ABE off I get close to my 50/25 speeds using 60/30 for settings

I'll get the pictures up soon

These settings worked every time on every previous firmware

one more thing i noticed that's annoying me....

setting up priorities and they aren't staying set.... put them in order, saved settings, and everytime I look at them a few minutes later they are all out of order again... very frustrating when you have to move 30+ things into order over and over again.... have set them at least 5 times now...

**edit**

then there are times that even after i adjust some of the priorities that the save button is not clickable.... frustrating

I noticed that too...I'll ask about the behavior of Priorities. It maybe that there is some automatic adjusting going on as well:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=54995.0

I haven't had any issues with the save button though.  ::)

Try disabling Media Server and see what happens please if your not using it.

I noticed this issue a couple of days back and wanted to see if my findings where correct.

I posted that I started using ABE on the new firmware and saw better performance.

Mind you before I tried this I was using manual and saw no issue.

A day and a half later I went to check up on the router and noticed the My Network page was missing.
No router or tree extending to devices.
I then went straight to the logs and noticed that SB was testing again.
Witch I found odd I was just playing Titanfalll on my Xbox One and it started feeling choppy hence the check up on my router.

I was distracted and didn't get pics at the time.  :(

It seems to be that when ABE tests it resets everything hence why when you don't see the test happen but come back to check your priorities are reset.

I went back to Manual on SB using the speeds the ABE test had giving me.
Have not had an issue  :)

In closing Don't use ABE something is up when it tests now it resets everything.
I would use the speeds ABE gave you if they work but turn the ABE option OFF.
If you choose this route I would also turn off SB reboot the router then turn SB back on.
This helps when redoing priorities.
Boot the PC first let it Tree and see windows or your PC name.
Then boot each device you want in the order you want it on priorities. (Helps with arrangement)  ;)
Finally if your not using it turn off MS Furry is right something is wrong there turn it off.

Hope all this helps  ;D

Thanks for the info. I'll pass this along. I haven't notice any issues with the My Network and devices not showing up however I'm using Mac and Safari here. I checked just yesterday and I saw the display was listing the connected device. However the priorities were not as I had saved them and thinking about it now that you mention ABE, there could be a behavioral thing with SB and ABE enabled, if it's doing some background speed testing, maybe it's resetting the Priorities as well. I've ask D-Link to have a look at this. I'll run some speed tests this evening and see what I find. Last time I looked, the ISP speeds were still what I pay for.

Speeds where fine with ABE on.
An that's what's odd speeds where good and set.
Like I mentioned I had ABE on for over 24hrs.
It had all ready tested and set my proper speeds.
Everything was running great.
So why it decided to test while I'm playing and after running fine is beyond me.
I think I just got lucky seeing the My Network page missing because it was testing at the moment I looked.
See if my tip helps tonight.
I'm darn sure even though speeds are all ready good with ABE on and set.
It decides to test again anyway at a later time and is messing everything up.

Keep us posted. This maybe a new behavior with ABE. Ya, I know my Speeds were set after it's final testing.

Might check the logs, if you see entries like testing from Server "so and so" at location. I believe this means the SP is testing. Look at the Test: status under ABE, it might say Testing or Done.

Post pics if you can.

So after Connection Up Time :   8 Days, 3:56:59 of being online, we had a brown out for several hours yesterday. Came back home from seeing How to Train Your Dragon 2 and power as back on. Checking yesterday and today, all saved Priorities were still in place and SB and ABE values were correct and to my ISP speed specs. There was a slight speed loss from 53.00 to 52.00  ::) However router is reporting correct values. I don't know if the router and ISP modem had fully lost power due to being on a UPS and we had gone soon after the power went out and had called a neighbor with in the hour and said that the power was back on. So I presume the UPS kept going long enough until the power came back on. So far the router is working and behaving as expected aside the duplicate icons appearing in the list.

I haven't had any issues with this FW version aside the duplicate icons which has been submitted for review.
Follow this for updating:New DGL-5500 Only Firmware Update Process!

If you can provide some feedback to the questions presented, we can see if there maybe issues elsewhere:
Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
  • Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
  • For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

So any ETA on a fix for this buggy and broken update? The duplicate items under the network are a minor annoyance, however they make one of the most important features of the router, the ability to control Priorities, useless as each item appears 1-3 times in the Priorities list, making it impossible to manage and completely useless. Between that, SB testing every other day for no good reason, and the overall instability of the router it makes this product look really amateurish (did D-Link even test this thing with more than 3 people?)

True, this update brought the router back to a semi-usable state after the previous dreadful updates but is still very far from the gaming router D-Link's advertising promised when this router launched.

Followed the update process this time. Issues I'm having.

1) priorities reset almost daily.

2) sb testing after already marked as done.

3) double listings in my network and priorities

4) cannot connect to my laptops VPN server from my cell phone with settings that worked every time on previous releases.

5) **worst of all** every 2-3 days I get completely locked out of the router. I have no choice but to pull the plug and restart. I can "see" both the 2.4 & 5ghz networks but can't connect to either. Devices that are connected stay connected but internet is limited and can't log into the 192.168.0.1 web interface to reset the router.

This is by far the most buggy release of this firmware to date.

When it works (aside from the duplicate devices) it works pretty well. But if I have to unplug my router every 2-3 days, it's useless.

What OS platform and Browser are you using to manage the router?

2) sb testing after already marked as done.
What ISP service and ISP  modem Mfr and model do you have?

3) double listings in my network and priorities
This is already known.

4) cannot connect to my laptops VPN server from my cell phone with settings that worked every time on previous releases.
Are you using any Virtual Server or Port Forwarding?

Is Media Server enabled? Please disable this as I experienced this as well then after disabling MS, I haven't seen this issue again.

1) Windows 8 and Firefox. Or iPad/iPhone and ios 7.1.1

2) Optimum online (I'll get the modem info later)

3) Virtual server (I posted screenshots for you earlier)

5) It happened both ways. Enabled and disabled. It's not the logging in issue. I'm completely locked out of the router. Can't even join the network. Happens with both radios. The 2.5 and 5ghz radios.

What wireless modes and settings are you currently using on the router?

Please let us know the model and Mfr info of the ISP modem when you get a chance.

What ISP speed package UP and Down do you pay for?
