Re: DNS-320 - Firmware Wishlist
« Reply #150 on: November 19, 2011, 07:14:43 AM »

I have been having a persistent problem that I would like to add to the "Wishlist."  Thanks for maintaining this JavaLawyer.

The FTP server does not understand the ALLO command very well, and this command is required by ftpput (the only way to ftp from my VMWARE server). Apparently, ability to understand the ALLO command properly is a standard.   The last firmware update resolved many of these errors (though unfortunately not all).  In particular, I receive an "ALLO: 552 Disk full - please upload later" error when uploading large files.  I know this sounds like my mistake, but I have confirmed that my 2TB drive can, in fact, take the same 2GB files when transferred via normal command line ftp (see http://forum.magiksys.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=104#p450).

I've used QNAP TS-210 before.

It didn't show root directory on SMB.

But DNS-320 always show "Volume_1" so all user try access it.

I hope "Volume_1" show/hide function or hide permanently.

Can't you manage this through sharing permissions?

Can you please clarify these two items? Your descriptions don't provide enough info for me to work with... (please be more concise and descriptive) Thx

Added...

This items is already on the list.

A resume was before the request.
Great work  ;) keep it rolling  8)
Like some of requests like cloud support but i think it would be nicer to have a cloud server like Tonido.

I just wanna to manage permissions right  ::)
In ShareCenter / Web Server, can't change any permissions at all, in folder or files neither recursive.
I'm forced to use nfs and manually force permissions recursive...

  • General - Fix Permissions messed with acessing throw ShareCenter, samba or NFS.
  • General - Get a (real) permission control over files / folders.
  • General - Support for Cloud serving, like tonido.
  • General - Possible to upgrade ajax.

Keeping it simple. Can't change/view permissions under ShareCenter / webserver.

A real UPS support will be great, can help with adding modules...
Most popular UPS models aren't support, can't understand why a such limited support.

  • General - Better Uninterruptible Power Supply suport and integration

First off, I want to say THANK YOU for the hard work on version 2.02.  For me going to this version fixed the issue of the files not being in alpahabetic order when viewing with UPnP.  One of the main reasons I bought the box was for streaming and fixing this made things a lot better for my series collections with making the list alphabetized!

A couple of things I noticed about the latest version as my Wishlist

UPnP -  Allow the users to enable access to the P2P folder "complete" within UPnP.  After a torrent is done I would like to use it right away, there is no way to enable this folder within UPnP.  I have to copy things over.  It appears to reside outside of Volume 1 and that is all that can be seen with UPnP folder enable options.

USB Port - A lot of competitors allow backups through their USB port automatically.  Would be nice if we had that feature and ideally if it could be in NTFS format so I could take my drive and go instead of needing specialized software for Windows to see the Linux format.

USB Port - A lot of competitors allow backups through their USB port automatically.

Are you referring to automatically backing up from USB storage device to the NAS (or the reverse)?
The DNS-320 has a USB copy function (USB -> NAS). There is already a Wishlist items specifying a USB storage device as the destination for a local backup.

As per the suggestion of another member, I created a separate locked thread titled DNS-320 - Firmware Wishlist [Master List] containing the complete firmware wishlist for easy viewing.

We will continue using this thread to post suggestions and provide updates to the firmware wishlist, while the locked "Mater List" thread will reflect all suggestions.

Thoughts? Comments?  :)

First off I want to say thank you to the moderators and people that have helped me and others through this forum.  The help and kindness is much appreciated.   :)

I have been searching through this forum for various things over the last month.  I have noticed an outcry over wishlist items.  Looking at the list today the ratio between requests/issues (65) and closed items (7) on our list is huge.  Being realistic I understand that Dlink may only find value in addressing items that impact a large portion of the users.  I would estimate that we have at least 1/3 of our items that they would consider serious candidates for code development.

To my understanding the product has been out for 9 months and we are averaging less than one fix per month.  Don't get me wrong, I am grateful for the fixes in 2.02.  One of the issues for me was fixed under that release.  My concern is about the amount of resources DLink is investing to fix our concerns.  On the surface it appears they need more people or more oversight of the people to make sure the work is getting done.

I think this is a good product and it could be better (like most things in life).  It appears we need a push from our moderators and Dlink Staff that monitors this forum to put some pressure on DLink to prioritize and focus on our requests.  It would be nice if they could share what they are focusing on.

Beyond my plea in this reply is there anything else anyone can do to help accelerate addressing our wishlist?

"Bug" as in why doesn't the latest firmware allow downgrading? Is there specific reason why D-Link is doing so given that newly purchase DNS-320 comes with firmware 1.00!!

That is not a bug the firmware has been coded that way. I do not have details as to why but informed that it is this way by design and not a bug.

Based on the above exchange regarding moving back to older firmware, I'm changing this wishlist item from a "bug" to "feature request"
