It has nothing to do with the browser. The router actually resets the password in the ramdisk file /var/passwd

I'll check mine out, I updated it once however didnt' get it set up fully as one thing I noticed after upgrading from v1.02 to v1.03, It would not let me re-load the saved config file from v1.02.  :-\

I configured my DIR-645 with f/w 1.01 and saved the config. I upgraded to 1.03b11 and reconfigured from scratch and again saved the config. So I can now compare the two versions.

First of all, the route node in the xml in 1.03 has _V1 appended to it.
The header therefore changes to match:
< signature=wrgn39_dlob.hans_dir645
> signature=wrgn39_dlob.hans_dir645_V1

The rest of the config is mostly the same - some new sections added.
So it should not be hard to modify the old config xml to make it 1.03 compatible.

Interesting. Wonder if the sections added are a reason why they didn't make it backwards compatible with the config file from v1.02. Saw this on the 857 on or about the same version. Eh, I'll probably just upgrade to v1.03 and reconfigure from scratch and re-save. I tend towards doing that mostly anyways so I can enusre the configuration is set up well. Thanks for your work and sharing the information. I'll try to check out v1.03 this weekend and see if I can reproduce the PW issue.

I loaded my 645 last Friday with v1.03 and tested with just using a 3 character PW. I rebooted the router using the UI and also powered OFF the router and back ON. The password remained the same and did not change.

How many characters were you using Amber in the PW?

My password is 7 characters.
It seemed that a reboot did not reset it, but a power off using the switch on the front did.

However tonight I turned my router off using the front switch twice, and the password was no longer reset!

Hmmm, it might be it only happens if the password is set via the setup wizard, then reboot.
If it is set via the web UI Tools, Admin page then it sticks!

ah, I'll check on using the Wizard tonite and see what happens. I always set up my routers via manual UI.  ::)

Link>Welcome!
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router? Wired is preferred initially.
Hold bottom button for 15-30 seconds.

What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8 or 9, set compatibility mode and test again.

I am away from the router for now, I updated to F/W 1.03 when I first got it, I am in San Diego, using both FF and IE9, tried both wired and wireless, I will time holding the button when I get back to in in around 2 hours, thanks for the quick reply.

Button only needs no more than 30 seconds.

Was a factory reset performed before and after updating to v1.03?
Where you able to log in with the prior version?

I updated the router to 1.03 when I first got it in December, at that time the login worked fine in doing the setup on the router, I had not had a need to login since it had been working great, I have a standard 8 charachter passsword I use on all routers, I see the suggustions to use a shorter one so I will try that once I get it reset. Where can I get the beta firmware that corrects this issue?
Thanks,

There isn't any beta available at this time. They updated the same v1.03 file in Feb of this year and did not graduate the v1.0# for some reason.  ??? So I recommend doing the following if you can get logged in or you can reset the router so you can log in correctly to the routers web page;
1. Re-download the v1.03 from the main web site and unpack it on the PC.
2. Factory reset the 645 using the routers web page Tools/System if you can get there using IE only. DO NOT USE any other browser for this event. FF is ok.
3. After the router resets and comes back to ready, log in and skip any set up wizards.
4. Send the .bin file that was unpacked under Tools/Firmware. Let the router process the FW file and come back to ready.
5. After the router is back to ready, do one more factory reset using the routers web page under Tools/System.
6. Let the router reset and come back to ready.
7. Set up the router from scratch. Do not load any saved configuration file from the previous version that was saved. It shouldn't allow you to do this anyways. I noticed this when I updated my 645 to v1.03. Just set it up from scratch.

Let us know how it goes.

Got it working, holding the button for thirty seconds allowed it to reset, I chose a shorter password and followed the directions above, I was configuring some ports for my video camera system and it reset to the blank password once again while I was working with it, set the password again and it has been fine the last two days, certainly something going on with the password portion of the firmware. Thanks for the help.
