Hi,
Same issue happened here yesterday.
DIR-645, Hardware Version : A1, Firmware Version : 1.04, using FF, Europe

I had been using the router for more than a year without touching the config until yesterday.
I only added some fix IPs to the DHCP reservation list and (I know it was not necessary) I rebooted the device in the tools menu. The password had gone.. it was really annoying as I always got username/password incorrect message and it took a while till I recognized the password is wrong because it got empty!

Stupid that D-Link was not able to fix the issue through many firmware versions..  :-\

However, WHERE IS THE DAMN LOGOUT BUTTON? I was also looking for that for hours yesterday.. only chance was to wait till the timeout.

What does your pw look like and how many chars does it have. Any special chars. Can you try a 3-8 numerical pw and test again.

What browser are you using?

Jwclark, can you do the same w the pw on yours?

My password has simply 7 lowercase letters and two numbers.
As I mentioned I am using firefox (FF).

Why should I do that test? Please tell the purpose. a) to help you find out the reason and fix the issue or b) to permanently use a password like that as a possible workaround instead of D-Link fixing the bug itself?

Could you answer my LOGOUT question please?

To see if a simple combination has a different behavior.
Does the same thing happen if you use IE?

D-link routers dont have a log out button, they automatically log out after 3mins.

oh, c'mon, I'm not stupid, I know that you wanna know if that combination has a different behavior but for what.. there is no limitation for the password normally.
I am just wondering if you can't reproduce the issue on your own since it had been reported year(s) ago and whether it is about to change my password behavior or to (first time) find the cause of the bug..

Thanks for the answer about logout, indeed.

I recommend that you phone contact D-link support and ask for level 2 or higher support and get immediate help an information on this.

Im on holiday here so i cant test anything until i get home next week. Ill pass thos along to my contact at D-link and see if they can review this. Maybe they cant find something be for this unit is rumoured to be headed into phased out status soon here in the states. Maybe different for the EU region.

Let us know what they say on your side...

OK, anyway, I will stop this pointless discussion, and I'm sorry if I was impolite, I just wanted to point out that this issue must have been found and fixed by D-Link long ago (considering just the start date of this thread) which is obviously not the case.
It really good shows the "sell and don't care" attitude of big providers.

Actually I can live with this situation and it is not worth phone contacting any support line where a - most likely - difficult-english-speaking outsourced foreigner tries to go through a kind of standard check list which is basically not more than "try to restart your device, if not helps restore factory defaults" - hahaha, yes, losing my fine-tuned configuration set over the past just because this is the standard checklist for almost all electronic devices. (sorry I have too much experience with TVs, Receivers, etc)

I know I am sarcastic  ;D buuut, am I not right?
I whish you a relaxing holiday!

I experience the issue with latest FW 1.4:
no matter if I left the password blanc (default) or change it to something simple like 'admin': after a couple of successful logins, the DIR-645 suddenly forgets the password for no reason. And I've to go to the reset procedure again and again. I hope that this will be fixed pretty soon!!!

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?
  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
  • Has a Factory Reset been performed?
  • Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?

Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection

Can you give us a timeframe or duration of time before you notice or when you think the PW is forgotten?

Hi,
my DIR-645 has HM version A1; FW version 1.4b11; I'm in Germany, so I loaded:
"Aktuelle Firmware für Rev.A mit Deutschen Sprachpaket" from 14.06.2013

I'm accessing via LAN cable with WinXP & IE 8 (WLAN is also up and running). I did not try using another web browser, since other devices with web-oriented configuration means work very well. I believe that there is still a problem inside the firmware as reported now for over a year!

I did not perform a factory reset prior to the upgrade to V1.4
I did not perform a factory reset after the upgrade. Just two days later after I learned that the login failed. Then 4 times today.

Please use the following and reload v1.04 and do not load any saved config files. Just factory reset, load FW, factory reset and setup from scratch:
FW Update Process

Let us know if you see this issue again after doing this process.

Ok, Lets try this for you those effected by this thats recommended by D-Link.

Download the v1.04b11 from your perspective regions and unpack the zip file.

Use IE or FF with add-ons disabled and any 3rd party PC security SW disabled temporarily.
Review and perform the following while the router is disconnected from the ISP modem and turn OFF all other devices accept for 1 wired LAN PC:
Emergency Recovery Mode

After the FW loads, do not load any saved configurations, use IE with add-ons disabled and set up the router from scratch.

Please input a fairly simple Admin PW, 8 chars max for now. Do this once the setup and configuration of the router has been completed.

Let us know if you notice the same issue or not.

Keep us posted.
